          C. A. Dwyer School
When the new Mt. Hope School school was being
considered, it was the summer of 1969. On July 20th
Neil Armstrong was the first man to land on the
moon, so it is no surprise that it was suggested
           naming the school after him.
We are not sure how it happened, but the new Mt.
Hope School was named after Catherine A. Dwyer
who taught in Rockaway Township for 45 years. Photo courtesy of the John Dunado Collection
According to a long time teacher, Dwyer School
                                                             Catherine A. Dwyer
opened on time. It housed Kindergarten through 4th
grades and the Mt. Hope School housed 5th and 6th.
