HILLSIDE September 2017 Newsletter HAPPENINGS "A Caring Commitment to Learning" Volume 15, Number 1 Story Block Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year! As we enter the new school year, I would like to share some of the things happening at Hillside: 1. Staffing - We are very happy to welcome Ms. Prusko to the staff of Hillside. Ms. Prusko will be teaching Junior High Social Studies, Language Arts, Health and Options. Mrs. LaVallee has returned to our staff following her year off and will be teaching Math 9, Senior High Math and Chemistry. 2. PLT - Senior high (grade 10-12) PLT is scheduled for Block 2 on Friday. This block will appear as a blank time on student timesheets, but it is intended for personalized education for students. Students may be nominated by a teacher to catch up on missed/ missing work or to write tests. Students who are not nominated by a teacher, may choose which classroom they will be in during that time to work on homework or projects or to get additional help from teachers. 3. School Council is a great way for parents to have input and be informed. Our organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 26 at 7 pm in the Learning Commons. All parents are encouraged to join us. 4. Webpage - Please visit our webpage at hillsidehigh.ca for copies of the handbook, bell schedule and highlights about ongoing events at Hillside. We are looking forward to working with our students and their families for the upcoming year. If you have any questions, please contact the school at 780-524-3277. Hello! My name is Jayna Prusko and I am a new member of staff at Hillside Junior/ Senior High this year. I am working in the Junior High end, teaching ELA 7 & 8, Health 7 & 8, Social 7 and team teaching junior high options. I will also be coaching the Junior Girls Volleyball team. I am very excited to be with this wonderful school for the 2017/ 2018 school year. I am originally from Drayton Valley, Alberta. I received my Bachelors of Secondary Education from the U of A in 2013, with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Health Education. This will be my third full year of teaching. In my free time I enjoy reading, shopping and spending time with friends. I am a fairly active person and enjoy running and playing sports, such as volleyball and softball. Some fun facts about myself, for 17 years my younger sister and I competed in Irish Dancing and I traveled to Ireland to compete in the Rose of Tralee Festival as a representative for Western Canada! This year I will be using Google Classroom and Remind for my core subjects. Codes are listed below and are the same for both Remind and GC. If signing up for Remind, text your classroom code to (450) 500-0579 : Language Art s 8A- HGDKUQ1 Language Art s 7C- KS73QI Social St udies 7B- 79UBP8N If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at the school 780-524-3277 or via email jayna.prusko@ngps.ca.
