Term 1 Newsletter 3/20 12 March 2020 Phone/Absence Line 04 902 5596 office@raumatibeach.school.nz Dear Parents and Guardians Congratulations to all of the students who took part in the “Super Schools,” event which took place last week. Reports back indicated that our students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I would also especially like to mention feedback that I received around the behaviour of our students. A number of adults including teachers commented to me how cooperative, well behaved and supportive our students were. Congratulations to all. NEW STUDENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (EDGE) AND INFORMATION SHARING PLATFORM (EDUCA) EDGE This year we will be introducing a new student management system to our school - Edge. If you have children at a secondary school, this system will be somewhat familiar. Edge gives us the ability to track attendance, collate assessments across the school in an easier way for analysis and provide us with a more streamlined accounts package. There will also be changes in how we record student achievement data and in how we share learning information with you. This video clip gives you a broad overview of what we are introducing into our school from a teachers perspective. We hope to have an Edge introduction video for parents at a later stage. EDUCA Educa is a secure, online platform that makes learning visible by sharing student success in real- time. Developed in New Zealand, Educa allows parents to engage with their student’s learning by posting feedback and sharing learning that takes place at home. Using the stories function in Educa, students will be able to share their learning with parents. This is a great way for students to capture and share their learning with you at home. More specifically, what they are learning and why, their goals, next steps, self-reflection, and their teacher’s response to the task or activity. Educa will also give us the ability to provide you with “real time” reporting rather than the traditional way we have reported, i.e. a paper report twice a year. We hope to have a video presentation for parents to better explain how this platform will work. Just for your information, from 2021 Educa will replace Seesaw. However, Seesaw will continue to be used this year to share learning experiences in P.E and health, the arts, science and social studies. We are looking forward to introducing these new systems over the next year and will update you as to our progress and what you can expect. UNIFORM Another reminder that the Argyle Online site is up and running for purchasing school uniform. Uniform information booklets can be picked up from the school office. School hats are still available to purchase on Kindo or from the school office.
PROPERTY UPDATE FROM THE BOT Kia Ora everyone, The BoT met recently to discuss the supplementary property money grant that Raumati Beach School was to receive. This supplementary property fund was given to all schools throughout the country by the government to use on projects other than maintenance. The $400K tagged for Raumati Beach is certainly welcome. The BoT have tagged $160K to ensure that the junior school rebuild could occur without compromising design. The BoT also surveyed the staff to see what projects they felt would enhance the learning environments around the school. Teachers came up with a comprehensive list of ideas and these along with feedback given previously to the BoT from the Student Exec will be used by the BoT to decide what the top priorities will be for the remaining funds. We are also excited to announce that the MoE have given the go ahead for the junior school redevelopment as well as roofing and guttering replacement. These projects will tentatively get underway at the beginning of Term 2. The school is working to relocate the junior classes so as to absolutely minimise disruption to students and their learning. Nichola Coe Ka kite ano Mike Farrelly PRINCIPAL GREEN DAY TOMORROW! Tomorrow we are having our annual Green Day to raise funds for the Mary Potter Hospice day unit. The children are encouraged to come in mufti with the emphasis on wearing green, which we will proudly parade around the neighbourhood. We ask that all children in mufti bring a gold coin which is donated to the hospice. We will have a “guess the number of bouncy balls” contest. Children pay 50c to guess the number of balls in a jar. The fun continues throughout the day with activities on the back field during lunch, as well as an opportunity for budding singers (and staff?) to entertain us on the quad stage at lunchtime. Sausages can be ordered on Kindo for lunchtime, these will cost $2.00. Ice blocks will be on sale for $1.00 at lunchtime for cash. MOVIN’MARCH This year, we are again participating in Movin'March. The month long event is run by Greater Wellington in partnership with local councils and celebrates the benefits of active travel to school. Walking, cycling and scooting to school have many benefits for tamariki. As well as being a great opportunity for regular exercise in the outdoors, they improve independence, physical and mental health, decision making, risk assessment and road safety skills. WOW Passport Every day we will stamp the walk and wheel trips your tamariki take to OR from school over March. All entries will go in the draw to win one of 12 x $400 AVANTI vouchers. More information on WOW from the Movin’March website. Our school will hold a WOW Family Day on Friday 27th March. We invite all families to walk or wheel to school in the morning and join us as we celebrate Movin'March. Stay for a coffee-the coffee cruizer will be onsite from 8:30am, enjoy a bacon butty and go in the draw to win a bike (child). At 9am we will hold our fabulous feet parade, along with an opportunity to view the decorated bikes and scooters. Mark this date in your calendar now. We also encourage you to ‘Park and Stride’ during Movin’March. Why not park away from the school gate and walk or scoot the rest of the way with your tamariki? It’s a great way to spend time together and avoid parking hassles and congestion. Plus it means our entrance is safer for those walking and ‘wheeling’ to school.
ANZ AWARDS CENTRE For every home loan over $50,000 drawn down with ANZ, our school can earn 800 credits to spend at the ANZ Awards Centre. 800 credits equates to approximately $400 of purchasing power and can be redeemed for your choice of items in computer technology for our school. Thank you to those who have nominated our school when getting a new mortgage at ANZ. Dawn has bought some new books for the library with the points. WIN LUNCH!
