Gunnedah Public School - Quality Education in a Caring Environment
Welcome Back
Welcome back to all our families and students. We hope you have all had a fun and relaxing
break and are ready for Term 3 learning. We also welcome two new families to our school
this term. As you are all aware, there are still restrictions in place for schools across NSW
and below I have outlined the information given to schools to date.
We will be starting our temperature testing at the gates in the morning for the next two
weeks following the holidays, to ensure we are doing everything we can to stop the spread
and keep our school safe.
The hall gate will remain closed in the mornings until further notice.
School Office Restrictions
As our office is a small space, it is very important that everyone practices social distancing
when entering. We are only able to have two adults in the office area at one time. So, if you
know that you are needing uniforms or to talk with office staff or myself, it is imperative that
you make an appointment whenever possible. This will enable us to reduce the numbers
in the office as well as outside the door and keep everyone safe.
School Reports
School reports will be sent home at the end of Week 2. If you would like to discuss anything
about your child's report please contact their classroom teacher and make an appointment
to have a phone consultation.
New Playground Equipment
As you will have noticed and seen in previous newsletters, we have new primary playground
equipment. It is now up and running and looks FANTASTIC. We are all so excited to actually
now be able to use this equipment.
Cathie McMaster, Principal

The following guidelines are from the DEC information given to schools.
Guidance for community use and visitors to the school
Non-essential adults are still not permitted on school grounds or at school events. This includes
parents and carers except for face-to-face parent/teacher meetings that are essential.
Parents and carers who need to be on site for canteen or uniform shop purposes, or for other
purposes where they are providing a service.
P&C meetings should continue on-line where possible. P&C run activities involving gatherings
should continue to be discouraged to minimise the number of non-essential adults on the school
site.

Staff and students who have travelled through or visited Victoria
All staff and students returning from Victoria after this time must have a permit to enter NSW and
are required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days.
NSW Health has requested anyone who has been in Victoria and is unwell or has flu like symptoms
arrange to be tested through their local medical practitioner or one of the COVID-19 clinics.

Safety and hygiene
Physical distancing is not required for students.
Physical distancing of children in schools is not required by the latest AHPPC guidelines.
Physical distancing requirements remain for adults.
Schools must strongly promote to all staff the need to remain vigilant and take all precautions to
minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in our schools and when out in the community. When
physical distancing is combined with good personal hygiene, the spread of illness and infection can
be slowed. Staff should exercise good personal hygiene and cleanliness including around staff
spaces and shared usage areas.
All adults must maintain physical distance from each other (1.5m) including teachers, support staff,
and visitors.

The following guidelines are from the DEC information given to schools (continued)
Hygiene measures
Schools must remain vigilant in applying infection control and personal hygiene practices while at
school. Schools must continue to promote and encourage regular washing of hands, exclusion of
any staff and students who are unwell, avoiding the sharing of food and personal items and cleaning
of any shared items such as musical instruments, learning and sporting equipment between uses.
Students should continue to bring water bottles from home to fill at water bubblers rather than drink
directly from the bubbler.

Student activities that can recommence in our schools

                                   Early Birds - 2020

Gunnedah Public School’s Early Birds program will be running
again in Term 3. This transition program is open to all children
intending to enrol in kindergarten at Gunnedah Public School in
                                           2021.

The program will be operating on Monday and Tuesday
                            mornings beginning August 31st.

More detailed information will be provided in the coming weeks.

We are excited to offer this outstanding program again.

Please contact Miss Flannery if you require further information.

                     STAGE 2/3 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Due to COVID restrictions, we will be unable to hold a Primary Athletics carnival this term.

All primary students and the students who will be turning 8 this year will have the opportunity
to participate in Athletics activities during Term 3. This will allow us to still tally age champions.

One of the activities students will be participating in is long jump, which will be held at Donnelly
fields. All students have already returned their blue permission note that gives permission for
them to walk to and from the fields for this activity. If you would not like your child to participate,
please inform the school. This will begin this Friday 24/7 and will run for the term.
