Recently we have enlarged our scope to in- clude “Promoting the Future” which includes our scholarship program. This year we added the “Horizon Honoree” program which recognizes outstanding high school and college rodeo ath- letes who are the future of rodeo. This year the “Horizon Honorees” from the Texas High School Rodeo Association Region 3 were Andee Shae Nored, Hadley Miller and Cutter Overton. They along with their parents were our guests at the 2019 RODEO REUNION & INDUCTION. Our 2019 Western Heritage Inductee, world renowned an- nouncer Bob Tallman introduced and briefly in- terviewed each of them. What a thrill! 2019 Golf Tournament by Ronda May, Chair The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame Golf Tournament was held April 4 at the Canyon West Golf Course in Weatherford, Texas. We had a wonderful day of golf with the maximum number of teams playing on a perfect sunny day. It was 81 degrees and just enough wind to keep the players cool. The Ladies Putting Contest, sponsored by Lari Dee Guy and Cinderella Horses, was won by Meredith Overbeck. The Men’s Gold Buckle Putting Contest followed sponsored by Westoplex Construction and Kirk Weid and was won by Tuff Hedeman. He was the first putter and sank a hole in one! I would like to thank all of the other sponsors that made this day possible: Little Red’s Longhorn Saloon, Resistol Hat Company, All Around Construction Company, Cavenders Western Wear, Van Gardens Landscaping, Ronnie Camp- bell, George, Morgan, and Sneed PC CPA’s. Riscky’s Bar B Que, Rod Patrick Boot Company, Fenoglio Boot Company, Andrew and Clark Rossi, and Kerry Zamora Realtor, as well as the many, many $100 Hole Sponsors. A special a thank you goes to Robert Anderson who started this golf tournament six years ago. He donated one of the very first buckles from that first year to the live auction. Fenoglio Boots donated a custom pair of boots made with “The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame” logo on the boot tops and Rod Patrick Boot Company also donated a pair of custom make boots. Thank you to Way Out West Shooting Center for their donation and also to Pam Minick and Billy Bob’s for donating two packages to our live auction. The number one goal of this day is to raise money for the Hall. We cleared over $26,000 for the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame. Thank you to everyone and see you next year! PROMOTING THE FUTURE through the Scholarship Program Major kudos goes to TRCHF Inductee and Board member Tina Hodge for being the first to recognize the need to support the youth of today in order to Promote the Future of rodeo. Several years ago, Tina came to the Board with a proposal to create a scholarship program designed to help high school seniors with funding towards college or trade school upon graduation. The Board agreed but stipulated that Tina serve as chair and develop a program that benefited TRCHF members and kept the Board out of the selection process. That is exactly what she did. Each year, TRCHF members submit applications available on the website for their children or grandchildren who are high school seniors. Three students are then selected by an anonymous team of educators recruited by Tina. They and their parents attend the TRCHF Induction as guests of the Board. Scholarship Committee Chair Tina Hodge introduces the Scholarship winners, lists their accomplishments and honors them with a plaque. Then upon their enrollment, a $2,000 check is mailed to the school they are attending credited specifically to their account. Congratulations to this year’s recipients… Ashlyn Williams, Chet Weitz & Alexis Ghormley. Scholarship Winners: Ashlyn Williams, Chet Weitz, Alexis Ghormley 2019 Silent Auction The auction once again was a huge success! A big “Thanks” to each of you that donated or purchased items. We did not have the live auction at the Induction this year, but will take place on Sunday, June 9, at the Longhorn Saloon in Fort Worth. Another big “Thanks” to all of the people that helped to make this year’s auction 2019 SPONSORS the best yet! I look forward to chairing the auction committee again next year. – Marilyn Ellis MAJOR EVENT SPONSOR AT&T MAJOR GOLF SPONSORS Craig & Jane Copeland GOLF SPONSORS Ronnie Campbell All Around Construction Westoplex Construction Van Garden Inc.
