Presidents Message Lion Rosemary Chapman February 2021 Bulletin Number 1 Welcome to 2021! Hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year! Thank you to everyone for all your assis- tance in making the Car Raffle so success- ful. The ticket sales were well beyond our expectations. Selling all 6,500 tickets with a profit of about $39,500 and congratulations on the 1,124 service hours. This was an amazing time with excellent cake sales as well. Thanks to Robert for keeping up the supplies. For our first meeting, it was a nice way to start the year for 2021, with a real dinner meeting! Thank you to Lions Bill Goulburn Market Place, the ticket buyer was a member of Starr and Ron for organising the day and Lions in NSW, so Ron engaged in meaningful rhetoric. for your help. February is also a busy month – Nominations for Office Bearer positions 2021/2022. Please see Lions Ray, Prue or Lorrain if you wish to nominate. Lion Dee Kol Youth of the Year, 16 February. Partners and friends are welcome to attend the Youth of the Year. Our YOTY Chair, Bob Collins is busy organising the evening and finding students to LIONS SERVICE YEARS participate. Goulburn Lions deliver Christmas Hampers valued at $25,000 to local Charities On Saturday 12th. December local Goulburn Charities received hampers to the val- ue of $25,000. Each food Hamper valued at $360 included 2 freezer bags and a Li- ons Pudding. Waiting to pick-up and distribute them were 4 Charities, St. Vincent De Paul 20 hampers, President Wendy Wise thanked the Lions Club and told me that because of extra money handed out by the Government this year demand for their services had diminished somewhat. Ruth Doggett and members of Can Assist collected 10 Hampers (each Hamper totaled 6 bags of goods) Major Phillip McCall from the Salvation Army and helpers received 20 hampers as did Tracey Wong and her crew from Anglicare. The Hampers were purchased by Lions Club Health and Welfare Chairman Maureen Strong. The Christmas Dinner this year held in the Auditorium of the Goulburn Workers Club. Members had to conform to the new Covid Rules. All that attended had a great time and thoughly enjoyed the meal provided. Rosemary gave a Christmas message, telling us of her plans for 2021. Thanks to Lion Bill Smith for the photos. December Bunnings BBQ Nets $400 Lion Ron Furniss District Governor Maxine Helmling and “Uber Driver” PDG Paul Helmling drop in to Bunnings Paying a surprise visit to Bunnings BBQ last year District Governor District Governor Maxine Helmling Maxine Helmling and Hubby PDG Paul dropped in for a sausage sandwich. They stayed and chatted for a while before heading off. The day proved quite profitable adding $400 to our Lions funds. A happy crew on a sunny day starting at 8am. starting with Capt. and Covid Monitor Ron Furniss. Ron was helped during the day by Lions Maureen Strong, Peter and Glennis Bacon, Bill Starr. Murray Rob- inson, Phill Clark, Prue Rickard, and Alex Harmer. According to “Covid rules” only five people serving at a time so we effectively had 2 crews. Rosemary Chapman called in to see if we needed help. The BBQ finished at 4.30pm. On Friday night the 18 December our Pub Raffle Chairman and well known Lions Club member Lion Bill Sommerville conducted the Gordon Pub raffle, Lion Bill rewarded his regular ticket buyers with a FREE raffle. The many prizes consisted of Champagne and Honey hams, Lions Christmas cakes and a full hamper bag. The hampers consisted of biscuits, fruits, cheeses and tasty snacks. The Patron Brian won 2 hampers and a ham, other regulars went home with more than 1 prize. Rosemary welcomed the many ticket buyers who attended the draw at Goulburn Square. She thanked the Lions members for their de- voted effort, selling raffle tickets starting in October, selling all tickets before Christmas. “We were unsure whether we would be able to hold the annual raffle due to this year’s health conditions” Rosemary told us. Rosemary's “can do attitude” meant that she pushed forward with the raffle, making sure we were safe by sticking to COVID-19 safe practices. Providing three EFTPOS machines (so we handled less cash). Rosemary thanked Goulburn Country Motors for supplying a car for display in Auburn Street. She thanked Merino Fuels for again donating Photos Mark Woodward fuel for third prize, (value $500), Paul O’Rourke for allowing us to sell tickets and display the car in the old Harris Scarfe shop, keeping mem- bers out of the weather. Rosemary went on to thank John Steins NewsX- press Goulburn Square, NewsExtra Market Place and their staff for charging our EFTPOS machines overnight. The winning number for the MG ZS Excite car (Value $22,000) this year, ticket 5658 held by Nicole Apps. Second prize of $2,000 Master- card went to Michael O’Connor ticket no. 5286 and third prize of $500 fuel from Merino Fuels won by ticket number 1543 Tony Elliot.
