WELCOME LETTER FROM OUR PROGRAM DIRECTOR Dear Firehall Campers, We’re excited for another summer at OSCA! Last year will be hard to top, but we’ve been planning even more fun adventures and activities for you in 2019. There’s a little something for everyone from Firehall favourites to new and exciting options! Here are some of our Firehall Favourites: EBTKS, CampQuest, Paul Armstrong’s Basketball Camp, Camping Camp, H2O, Out & About, Ukulele, Young Explorers, What’s Cookin’, Junior Camping Camp, Gamers, Bike Camp, Dance In The City, Kids Clay, Kinderclay, and Youth Pottery Here are some of our amazing new camps: Junior Life In Balance, Trailblazers H2O2, Youth Bake Boss, Youth H2O2, Steam Aviation’s Junior Island Escape, 3D Game Programmer Jr with FutureKids, and Chess Camp with the Chess’N Math Association. We’re going to make the summer of 2019 a fantastic experience for you. We can’t wait to see old faces and welcome new ones! If you have not been to Firehall camps before, feel free to come visit us or email us if you have any questions. We are always willing to help our campers feel safe and comfortable so their Firehall experience is a positive and fun one. EVERYTHING BUT THE KITCHEN SINK (ENTERING JK-SK) The following camps are intended for children entering JK or SK in September 2019. Children must be at least 4 years of age or turning 5 years of age due to regulations from the Ministry of Education. Let the good times roll with this long-time Firehall favourite! Our enthusiastic staff will lead your child through an action- packed summer adventure. During a week of “EBTKS”, children partake in a tonne of engaging activities including crafts, active games, circle time, stories, and outdoor play. Excursions to parks, museums, and other local attractions are also included in each week’s schedule. EBTKS offers a bit of everything to make the summer memorable for your little one! Swimming and EBTKS: Please note that we only visit supervised wading pools and beaches guarded by NLS certified lifeguards. We follow the City of Ottawa’s admission standards which include special ratios and having staff within arms’ reach. We recommend that children bring their own floaties and life jackets if possible. CAMPQUEST (ENTERING GRADE 1-2) The following camps are intended for children entering Grades 1 or 2 in September 2019, so they should be turning 6 or 7 years old. If you are looking for the classic Firehall experience, you have come to the right place! CampQuest offers participants fun activities such as crafts, sports, cooking, and active games based on a different weekly theme. Campers will also get to enjoy exciting out-trips around the city with our energetic and experienced camp staff. In Trailblazer Camps, we structure each week around a central theme while also allowing the campers to enjoy a multitude of other classic camp activities such as out-trips, sports, cooking, and crafts. On Monday and Tuesday, campers will assist in the planning and preparation of activities, chores, and menus. They will also be taught the basics of camping, such as safety and setting up a campsite. When they arrive at Lac Philippe on Wednesday, activities will include hiking, swimming, campfires, and learning about basic survival skills and outdoor education. A sleeping bag, pillow, personal toiletries, and clothing are required, as well as any nut-free snacks that campers want to bring. Tents and meals are provided. Please note that a full list of required equipment will be emailed to participants one week prior to camp. Youth Camps are camps for pre-teens and teens. We structure each week around a central theme but also do classic camp activities such as out-trips, sports, and cooking. We also try to have the campers help us choose some activities during the week as well. Take a look at the camps below for more detail.
