GRADUATION TRANSITIONS
Assignments & Exit Interview Guidelines
April 30th – May 3rd 2018
Page 1 of 15Grad Transitions is intended to prepare students for a successful transition to life after
high school. In order to meet this goal, Graduation Transitions encourages students to:
• Take ownership of their own health and learning
• Examine and demonstrate connections between their learning and their future
• Create a plan for their growth and development as skilled, healthy, knowledgeable,
participating citizens
• Exhibit attributes of a BC graduate
Students are responsible for planning and preparing their education, career, and life
goals through Graduation Transitions.
Page 2 of 15Graduation Transitions is an opportunity for students to reflect on their knowledge and
abilities and plan for life after graduation by collecting evidence of their achievements
in the following required areas:
• Personal Health
Daily physical activity and a commitment to fitness and physical and emotional well-
being are key to healthy living. In this component of Graduation Transitions, students
develop the knowledge, attitudes, and habits needed to be healthy individuals by
maintaining a personal health plan and participating in at least 150 minutes per week
of moderate to vigorous physical activity in each of Grades 10, 11, and 12.
• Community Connections
Life after graduation includes the world of work and community responsibilities. As part
of Graduation Transitions, students gain employability skills through participation in at
least 30 hours of work experience and/or community service.
• Career and Life
Graduation Transitions requires students to explore personal and career goals during
their secondary school years and create a plan for life after graduation.

Page 6 of 15Budget Assignment
After graduation you will eventually want to leave home and get your own place. Do
you know what it will cost? The following assignment will help you have a realistic
understanding of just what the cost of living is and how much income you will need to
support yourself. Please do your research either on the internet (using such websites
as Craigslist) or with the help of another adult who pays these expenses.
So you are considering moving out:
① Prepare a shopping list of the items you will need to purchase to set up
a place of your own, then research the costs. You can use flyers,
catalogues, Craigslist, etc.
② How much will it cost per month to cover basic housing expenses-
Choose a location (city?) ___________________________.
Use Craigslist to find a rental place. Will you be sharing with a roommate?
Or will you live in university housing? (Check university websites
for student housing costs.)
③ You will need to eat. What will that cost each month? How about your personal
expenses? Clothing? You may not go shopping every month but you will need
to plan for when you do.
④ How much are transportation costs, whether public or you own a vehicle?
⑤ You’ll want a social life?
⑥ Determine how many hours you need to work to accommodate for this or if you
will be going onto college or university, how much will you require in student
loans, work &/or RESP’s (aslto meet your monthly expenses.

Page 8 of 15Your Financial Goals for the future:
Setting your financial goals puts you in charge of your money and your life. Your goals can be short or long
term, small or large, but they all need to be achievable. The first step to getting sorted is to work out where
you want to be financially and what your priorities are. Be specific and realistic. Keep each goal simple and
give it a timeframe and a dollar amount. Set some smaller goals to help you get there – like saving for a
deposit or paying off your credit cards. Set some big goals - like buying a home or saving for your retirement
