WHAT is S.H.I.N.E Read & Reflect about? ■ Once every 2 weeks, your child will: – read a book based on the growth mindset or gracious behaviour – reflect on the book and write a journal entry in your EL Journal ■ There will be 14 books to read per level. ■ They have been specially picked for your child to take home for reading.
Some examples:
WHY are we doing S.H.I.N.E Read & Reflect? ■ The “I” in S.H.I.N.E stands for “Introspection”. Someone who introspects will pay attention to his/her own ideas, thoughts and feelings, and think about them. ■ If we practise the self-discipline to introspect when we come across something, we will keep on growing in our knowledge, skills, values and behaviour. ■ Our school’s vision is “A Lifelong Learner, A Gracious Citizen”. To become lifelong learners and gracious citizens, we need to have a growth mindset and learn about graciousness. Reading the books and thinking about what we have read will help us in that.

Why Volunteer? 1. Improve family bonding A parent’s active involvement in school activities can boost family bonding and values education at home. When parents volunteer, opportunities are created for them and their children to have conversations about school, teachers and peers. 2. Learn from each other Parent volunteers are constantly learning from one another as they contribute to the school. By associating with other parents, the school principal and teachers, parent volunteers learn and upgrade themselves on education in general. 3. The Joy of giving back
