LSB 904 Blessed Jesus, at Your Word
      1 Blessèd Jesus, at Your Word
            We are gathered all to hear You.
          Let our hearts and souls be stirred
            Now to seek and love and fear You,
          By Your teachings, sweet and holy,
          Drawn from earth to love You solely.

      2 All our knowledge, sense, and sight
            Lie in deepest darkness shrouded
          Till Your Spirit breaks our night
            With the beams of truth unclouded.
          You alone to God can win us;
          You must work all good within us.

      3 Gracious Savior, good and kind,
            Light of Light, from God proceeding,
          Open now our heart and mind;
            Help us by Your Spirit’s pleading.
          Hear the cry Your Church now raises;
          Hear and bless our prayers and praises.
D4 Father, Son, and Spirit, Lord,
                Praise to You and adoration!
              Grant that we may trust Your Word,
                Confident of our salvation,
              While we here below must wander,
              Till we sing Your praises yonder.

Invocation and Litany
P In the name of the Father,
C whose steadfast love endures forever;
P and of the Son,
C whose steadfast love endures forever;
P and of the Holy Spirit,
C whose steadfast love endures forever. Amen! Amen! Amen!

Confession and Absolution
P As we continue this Lenten journey of love, and reflect on the strong, deep, sure, and steadfast love of the
  Lord; we realize that we have not been steadfast in our faith. We have turned to the right and to the left and
  gotten off track. Our lives have wavered and gone astray. Let us then confess our sins to God, our Father.

                             (Silence for reflection on God’s Word and self-examination)

C Heavenly Father, I have not remained steadfast as I should. I have teetered and tottered with the
  shifting changes and chances of this world. Too often have I fallen prey to fear. Too often have I given
  in to temptation. Too often have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight. Forgive me Lord God,
  and renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.

P God is steadfast in His love toward you even when you aren’t. He doesn’t waver. He doesn’t move away. He
  stays! As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in
  the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen! Amen! Amen!

Collect of the Day
P O God, You see that of ourselves we have no strength. By Your mighty power defend us from all adversities
  that may happen to the body and from all evil thoughts that may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus
  Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C Amen.

Old Testament Reading                                                                               Psalm 118:1–9
       1
           Oh give thanks to the LORD, forhe is good;*
            for his steadfast love endures for- ever!
       2
         Let Israel say,
          “His steadfast love endures for- ever.”
       3
         Let the house of Aaron say,
          “His steadfast love endures for- ever.”
       4
         Let those who fear the LORD say,
          “His steadfast love endures for- ever.”
                                                                                                         2|Page

                 Out of my distress I called on the LORD;
                  the LORD answered me and set me free.
               6
                 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear.
                  What can man do to me?
               7
                 The LORD is on my side as my helper;
                  I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
               8
                 It is better to take refuge in the LORD
                   than to trust in man.
               9
                 It is better to take refuge in the LORD
                   than to trust in princes.

Epistle                                                                                         Hebrews 6:13–20
          13
       For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by
 himself, 14saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15And thus Abraham, having patiently waited,
 obtained the promise. 16For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an
 oath is final for confirmation. 17So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise
 the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18so that by two unchangeable
 things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement
 to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that
 enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having
 become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

Gospel                                                                                            Luke 6:46–49
     46
     “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? 47Everyone who comes to me and hears my
 words and does them, I will show you what he is like: 48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and
 laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not
 shake it, because it had been well built. 49But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built
 a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the
 ruin of that house was great.”

LSB 543 What Wondrous Love Is This
 1 What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul!
          What wondrous love is this, O my soul!
            What wondrous love is this
            That caused the Lord of bliss
          To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
          To bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

 2 When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down,
          When I was sinking down, sinking down,
            When I was sinking down
            Beneath God’s righteous frown,
          Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul,
          Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

                                                                                                      3|Page
3   To God and to the Lamb I will sing, I will sing;
     To God and to the Lamb I will sing;
       To God and to the Lamb,
       Who is the great I AM,
     While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
     While millions join the theme, I will sing.

 4   And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
     And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on.
       And when from death I’m free,
       I’ll sing His love for me,
     And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on,
     And through eternity I’ll sing on.

Offering

Prayers

P Lord God, we thank and praise you that you have not left us as orphans even though that is what we deserve.
  You have been faithful and will remain faithful to the end. Remind us of your faithfulness when we are
  weak. Fill us with the certainty of your love when we get anxious about the cares and concerns of this world,
  and hold us close to you through it all. Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
C His steadfast love endures forever.

P In the midst of this season of Lent we get weary in doing good. Give us strength to proclaim your steadfast
  love in our words and actions, that we might be your witnesses and ambassadors to the ends of the earth. Let
  the house of Israel say,
C His steadfast love endures forever.

P Holy Spirit, fill us with compassion for others that we may give as you have given to us. Turn our hearts
  toward you and your mercy and grace. Humble us, by your mighty power, that we may cling to Jesus alone
  for life. In your compassionate love,
C His steadfast love endures forever.

P Lord God, we are never deserving of your goodness and mercy. Yet you continue to give it freely. Have
  mercy on your children who are struggling with illnesses and injuries of many kinds (including _______).
  Heal them according to your will. Use this time of physical struggle to renew their faith in you. Let those
  who fear the Lord say,
C His steadfast love endures forever.

P Because of your steadfast love we are bold to put these petitions before you, knowing that you will hear us
  for your Son’s sake.
C Amen.

                                                                                                       4|Page
Lord’s Prayer
L Taught by our Lord and trusting His promises, we are bold to pray:
C Our Father who art in heaven,
    hallowed be Thy name,
    Thy kingdom come,
    Thy will be done on earth
       as it is in heaven;
    give us this day our daily bread;
    and forgive us our trespasses
       as we forgive those
       who trespass against us;
    and lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.
  For Thine is the kingdom
    and the power and the glory
    forever and ever. Amen.

Benediction
P The Lord bless you and keep you.
  The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you.
  The Lord look upon you with favor and T give you peace.
C Amen.

       1   Abide, O dearest Jesus,
             Among us with Your grace
           That Satan may not harm us
             Nor we to sin give place.

       2   Abide, O dear Redeemer,
             Among us with Your Word,
           And thus now and hereafter
             True peace and joy afford.

       3   Abide with heav’nly brightness
             Among us, precious Light;

             Grow daily through Your Word.

       5   Abide with Your protection
             Among us, Lord, our strength,
           Lest world and Satan fell us
             And overcome at length.

                                                                       5|Page
