Taylan Barkley FSCC Volleyball 2011-2012 Taylan Schwartz Barkley played volleyball for FSCC in 2011 through 2012. During her collegiate career, Taylyn broke records and rankings with her athletic abilities. She was the first to have a back- to-back 20 win season in school history and currently sits as 2nd in FSCC history for Assists/Career with 2551 Assists. Taylyn was also a two-time KJCCC Academic Team achiever. Below are some of her career achievements while at FSCC. Freshman Year Ranked #2 in DII Volleyball in Assists per set (10.34) Second Team All-District Honorable Mention All-Conference All-Tournament Team – Fort Scott Tournament All-Tournament Team – Vernon College Tournament All-Tournament Team – East Central College Tournament Sophomore Year 1st Team All-Conference 1st Team All-District Nominated for All-American Ranked #3 in DII Volleyball in Assists per set (10.94) All-Tournament Team – Fort Scott Tournament All-Tournament Team – Vernon College Tourna All-Tournament Team – East Central College Tournament Barkley went on to play volleyball at Pittsburg State University and graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Education and Physical Education certification. She then came back to FSCC in 2017 as the assistant volleyball coach, where she helped lead the Greyhounds to their first ever Plains District Title and National Championship Appearance. Taylyn has since married to former FSCC Baseball Assistant Coach, Lance Barkley and had her daughter, Tate. She is currently ranked in the top 3% in her company for direct sales and is a realtor in El Dorado, KS.
Chris Beard FSCC Head Basketball Coach 1998-1999 In 1998-99, Coach Beard led the Greyhounds basketball team to it’s first winning season in 8 years, going 19-12. Upon leaving Fort Scott, Beard went to coach at Seminal State College before moving to Texas Tech to work under the legendary Bob and Pat Knight for 10 seasons. Beard has gone on to have a wildly successful coaching career at the NCAA level. He was named the head coach at Arkansas-Little Rock in 2015 where he was named the Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year after clinching a bid to the NCAA tournament and knocking off 5 seed Purdue in a double-overtime thriller. Beard was named head coach job at Texas Tech University in 2016 and coached for 5 seasons. TTU made the NCAA tournament three times, while reaching the Elite Eight in 2018 and the National Championship game in 2019. Coach Beard was named the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year in 2019.
Jolee Sharp FSCC Women's Basketball 2010-2012 Jolee Sharp played basketball for FSCC in 2010 through 2012. In her collegiate career, Jolee set records and broke them. She was named KJCCC Player of the Week three times and also the National Jr. College Player of the Week her sophomore season. To this day, Jolee still holds the FSCC Women's Basketball Record in Career Steals of 261. Below are some of her career achievements while at FSCC. Career Achievements at FSCC Career High Points: 34 vs Labette 2-1-12 Career High Steals: 12 vs Allen County 1-19-11 2 Career Triple-Doubles 16 Career Double-Doubles All-Conference KJCCC (sophomore) Honorable Mention KJCCC (Freshman) Career Stats: 14.1ppg, 7.2rpg, 52%FG, 34%3pt, 73%FT, 4.4spg, 3.3apg, 1.2bpg 872 total points, 444 rebounds, 261 steals, 202 assists Sharp went on to play basketball at Missouri Southern State University. She had a very successful career at MSSU, starting in 34 games while earning Academic All-Conference in both her junior and senior seasons. She then graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Health Promotions and Wellness in 2015. Jolee currently works as a government contractor and lives in Independence, MO.
Dave LaRoche FSCC Head Baseball Coach 1998-2001 Dave LaRoche coached at FSCC from 1998- 2001. He oversaw the Dave Reagan Clubhouse addition to the baseball facilities. Without that facility, FSCC baseball would not have been able to grow into the program it is today. He had a vision for the program which was far ahead of his time and set a foundation for the success of the program. Dave had a 14-year major league career while playing for the Angels, Twins, Cubs, Indians, and Yankees. He compiled a 3.53 ERA in 1050 innings pitched in his career. He and his wife Patty and family spent time in Fort Scott and have made a tremendous impact on our community.
