Called to Live and to Love as the Body of Christ. Paths to Connect @ al l s ai n ts p re s _a tx Al l Sai n t s Au s ti n Our primary means of community is worship on Sundays, but in a large church such as ours, it is necessary to organize smaller in order to truly connect and become rooted. You can find out about all the ways to connect smaller at allsaintsaustin.org/connect or scan one of the QR codes below to go directly to information about a specific ministry MEN'S WOMEN'S YOUTH MINISTRY FORMATION WEDNESDAY STUDY WEDNESDAY STUDY GROUPS RECOVERY & SUPPORT YOUNG ADULTS CHILDREN 50+ MINISTRY GROUPS MINISTRY ON SUNDAYS ADVENT | CHRISTMAS | EPIPHANY | LENT | EASTER | PENTECOST THE SEASON OF EPIPHANY The word "epiphany" means to show, reveal, or make known. As a season, it is a time set aside for seeking to see Christ more clearly as he moves from obscurity to clarity, veiled to unveiled, inaccessible to accessible, and from the periphery of people's interest and attention to the center of their lives. Epiphany's paradigm for following Jesus is the Magi, the "wise men" of Matthew chapter 2. THE COLORS OF EPIPHANY White and gold are the colors with which Epiphany begins and ends. They represent the light, purity, and preciousness of Christ who has come into our broken world to heal and reign. The middle weeks of Epiphany are represented by the color green to emphasize God's growing revelation of Christ's identity and mission and the church's renewed participation in them.

CONFESSION OF SIN Minister: God of glory, you sent Jesus among us as the light of the world, to reveal your love for all people. People: We confess that our sin and pride hide the brightness of your light. We turn away from those in need; we ignore the spiritual complacency in our own lives; and we do not seek peace with those at odds with us. In your mercy, cleanse us of our sin; baptize us once again with your Spirit, that, forgiven and renewed, we may show forth your glory, shining in the face of Jesus Christ. -Based on the Book of Common Worship (Pause for a time of silent confession followed by pastoral prayer for the congregation, community, and the world.) ASSURANCE OF PARDON Minister: The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of his Holy Spirit. People: Amen. 5

OLD TESTAMENT READING Exodus 24:12-18 The LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and wait there, that I may give you the tablets of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction.” 13 So Moses rose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God. 14 And he said to the elders, “Wait here for us until we return to you. And behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.” 15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. 16 The glory of the LORD dwelt on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17 Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel. 18 Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights. EPISTLE READING 1 Corinthians 13:1-8 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never ends. Reader: The Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God! 7
8 GOSPEL PROCESSION Please turn and face the Bible as it is processed into the aisle. Instrumental refrain is played as the bible is returned to the altar table. GOSPEL READING Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew. People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. Matthew 17:1-9, 14-16 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” 8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. 9 And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”... 14 And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, 15 said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he has seizures and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. 16 And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” Reader: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise be to you, Lord Christ. SMALL SAINTS DISMISSAL At this time, children in Kindergarten-3rd grade may go to Room 102 for a lesson and activity. They will return to the Sanctuary during the Offertory. HOMILY "Epiphany on the Mount: The Transfiguration" Rev. Tim Frickenschmidt 8
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Celebrant: Christian, what do you believe? People: I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. -The Apostles Creed WELCOME! We're so glad to have you worship with us. Please sign in so we have a record of your attendance. Option 1: Take the black sign-in pad from under the seat at the end of the row and record your information there. Option 2: Scan the QR code with your phone's camera and fill out the form there. You may also do this after the service. RETURN OF CHILDREN: During the Offertory, Small Saints teachers will bring the children back to the Sanctuary. 10 HOLY COMMUNION OFFERTORY Celebrant: Let us with gladness present the tithes and offerings of our life and labor to the Lord. OFFERTORY INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDE TITHES & OFFERINGS Online giving is available at any time at allsaintsaustin.org/giveonline or you may leave offerings in the bowl at the entrance before or after the service. Minister: Let us pray: People: We do not presume to come to this, Your Table, O merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your Table. But you are the same Lord whose property is always to have mercy. Grant us therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body and our souls washed through his most precious blood that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. (Please stand.) GREAT THANKSGIVING Celebrant: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. Celebrant: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them up unto the Lord. Celebrant: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give him thanks and praise. Celebrant: It is very good and right, our duty and privilege to at all times and in all places give thanks unto you O Lord, holy Father, Almighty and Everlasting God. For you are the eternal, immortal, and invisible King, the only true God. You created us and all things out of nothing; and when we had fallen into sin, you raised us up again in Christ, and did not cease to do everything until you had brought us up to heaven, granting us the kingdom that is to come. For this 10 and for all that we know and do not know, we give you thanks. We especially give you thanks for this Eucharist offering.
Celebrant: In and through your Son, Jesus Christ, condescend to receive it from our hands, even though angels and archangels and all the company of heaven laud and magnify your glorious name, evermore praising you and singing: 3 4 People: Ho ly, ho ly, ho ly Lord, God of power and might, Hea ven and earth are full, full of your Bless ed is He who comes in the name of the glo ry. Ho san na in the high est. Ho Lord. san na in the high est. (Music: Franz Schubert; adapt. David Lutes) ^ (Please kneel or be seated) Celebrant: With these angelic voices, O Lord, lover of mankind, we also cry and say: holy are you, Lord, and all-holy, you and your only begotten Son, and your Holy Spirit; and magnificent is your glory; for you so loved the world that you gave your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For in the night in which he was betrayed, Jesus took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take, eat, this is my Body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." Likewise, after supper, he took the cup; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, "Drink of this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the remission of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." Remembering this commandment and all that Christ has done for us we present to you our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to you, which is our reasonable service, and we proclaim together: People: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. 11 ^ At this time please kneel or be seated.
12 Celebrant: And we pray, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and on these your gifts of bread and wine. Make this bread also the precious Body of your Son, and that which is in this cup His precious Blood. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit; so that they may be unto us nourishment of soul, fellowship with the Spirit, and a foretaste of your kingdom. Grant us with one mouth and one heart to glorify and bless your all-holy and magnificent name, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. People: Amen. Celebrant: And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say: People: Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD Celebrant: Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; People: Therefore, let us keep the feast. Celebrant: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you. INVITATION Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him by faith, with thanksgiving. 12
