Dear Members, Traditionally spring is a time of hope, a time of renewal. The world has been suffering through a worldwide pandemic for well over a year now. Finally, vaccines have brought us hope that there is light at the end of the tunnel, light after all the darkness. The Board and management have spent countless hours working on issues surrounding the pandemic. Action is taken based on the best Deborah Benson information available to us at the time of the decision. By the time club president you read this, we will have been allowing immediate family guests to enjoy some of the amenities of Gleneagles – golf, tennis, most satellite pools, the Healthy Lifestyle Center and the spa. Many families are very grateful to be able to enjoy these activities with their family members. As conditions warrant, more adjustments to our protocols will be initiated. We have reinstituted many of the services members are accustomed to enjoying – towel services, card rooms, drink stations at golf, tennis and in the card rooms, locker room showers, and pedestrian walking on the Victory golf course. A bit of normalcy returning to the Club. Thankfully most of our membership is fully vaccinated. Assistance is being offered to our employees to help them secure vaccine Kraig Spina appointments. Hopefully most of our staff will also be fully vaccinated general soon. manager As many repairs and maintenance tasks have been completed during our closure, the Club will not be closed this summer. This is great news for those of us who live here year-round! The Board had a two-day orientation in April. Among other things we accomplished, we updated and revised our strategic plan. Gleneagles has a plan going forward and our future is bright. Our sales continue to be strong which help us accomplish our capital projects. In fact, we are on track to exceed the number of sales we had in our best year ever – awesome news! Construction on the Veranda will begin early in May. We are hopeful that the project will be completed in about 7 to 8 months. There will be no new assessment to members for this renovation. Whether you are here in Delray Beach or have returned to another home elsewhere, I hope you are safe and healthy and continue to enjoy all the wonderful things life offers you. Respectfully yours, Deborah Benson, Club President Kraig Spina, General Manager photo by FRED SINGER COVER PHOTO BY VISUAL ENTERPRISES 2 the Eagle MAY 2021

COVER STORY family ties Neal Jac obs Justin Jac obs Donald Rosenberg One of the many unique attributes of our membership is that many of our members are related to other members! From siblings to children to nieces and nephews, & J u st in Jacobs it is evident that living near family is Abbie ol Kline important to many of our members! wit h C ar STAYING ACTIVE Meet the Jacobs and Rosenberg/Kline Family: Neal, Jennifer, Abbie (14), and Justin (12) Jacobs joined Gleneagles in March 2021. The Jacobs family has been visiting Jennifer’s parents, Carol Kline and Donald Rosenberg, who have been at Gleneagles for the past five years. “We love so many activities at Gleneagles including golf, Pickleball, the pools, the card room, dining by the pool, the spa, the walking path—pretty much everything! “Since we have loved our time visiting our parents at Gleneagles, we are so excited to buy a place where our family can spend many wonderful years together and share many more laughs and memories,” remarks Jennifer. STAYING SAFE Meet the Owens and Mendell Family: Howard and Shirley Mendell joined Gleneagles in 2006. Their children, Alissa and Mark Owens, and grandchildren, Zoe (25) and Jordan (22), have been coming to Gleneagles from New York to visit the Mendells for the past fifteen years. Two years ago, Alissa and Mark bought a condo to enjoy Gleneagles as snowflakes. Jordan Zoe & ns O we 4 the Eagle MAY 2021
“ Gleneagles has kept us safe in the past year, there is no better place to be than here. We look forward to Alissa and Mark spending more time here, and we are trying to talk our son and his family “ into joining here as well! Member, Shirley Mendell The Jacobs and Kline / Rosenberg family celebrate LIKE FATHER, LIKE SONS Here at Gleneagles, we like to think of all our staff as family! One staff member that many of you will recognize is Mr. Jean Olius. Jean has been part of our “Gleneagles Family” for the last 26 ½ years. We are fortunate to have Jean as part of our team as he can be counted on whenever, or wherever he is needed, and his main focus is always to make sure that our members are treated with top notch service. Jean says he loves being part of the Gleneagles team and feels grateful for the relationships he has built throughout the years, not just with Mendell / Owens family selfie our staff but with the members. He’s gotten to know many of our members personally and says that he has even been able to pick up some Yiddish over the years. But what some of you might not know about Jean is that his appreciation for Gleneagles led him to having his sons join the team while they are finishing their college careers. His son Frantz (green shirt) joined us in 2016, and Sam (black sweatshirt) in 2019 – both young men work in our Outside Golf Operations and have both proven to be great assets to Gleneagles! Just like their father, they can be counted on to help their team any time. We thank the Olius family for their hard work, their commitment to our Club, and especially for being part of our Jean Olius with sons Sam & Frantz Gleneagles Family! Family is important. We all want the best for our family, and we are so proud that our members and employees recognize that Gleneagles is the perfect place for their families to live, work, and play. gleneagles.cc 5
MEMBERSHIP NEWS Sales Records Shattered KRISTEN LARAIA DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP & MARKETING 561-637-1201 April 2021 became the busiest month for membership sales in recent history with 40 membership sales this month. Since 1999, the previous two highest months were April 2014 with 27 and May 2018 with 20. The 2020-2021 fiscal year, which ends on October 31, has already seen 74 sales through April 8, which is the same volume of sales that took place during the entire 2019-2020 fiscal year. Why are new membership sales soaring? There are many reasons, but the pandemic has made many people realize that living in a respectful and caring community with safe indoor and outdoor amenities to enjoy is an absolute necessity during these extraordinary times. With many areas of the country facing restrictions on indoor dining, fitness use, and other activities, combined with a bitter winter, Florida winter has never looked better. The club’s response to the pandemic, including the relatively low incidence of the virus and common sense precautions, also made a great impression on prospective members for the past year and instilled confidence in our operations. Included in our new membership sales are 21 renters who purchased. This number is significantly higher than in previous years, and a testament to the first-class experience our renters enjoyed at the club this past winter. The membership team is working hard to welcome these many new families to our wonderful club. If you see a new face around the community, be sure to introduce yourself as this is likely a new member! Guest INTRODUCING Name DIGITAL MEMBERSHIP AND GUEST CARDS As of April 5, all immediate family guest cards are offered in digital format, with a hard copy available upon request. Digital immediate family guest cards are valid forever. Simply save it on your smart phone and present to use club facilities subject to immediate family guest rules. All previously issued hard copies are still valid. All members who use the club App have access to a digital membership card. The digital membership card can be accessed on the home page of the App. Members should submit a photo through the App to appear on their digital membership card. 6 the Eagle MAY 2021
