Dear Members, Although 2020 and 2021 have not been what any of us expected, we have all enjoyed the best country club lifestyle possible given the circumstances, and it has been an honor and privilege to go through these challenging times with the Gleneagles family. Despite these challenges, the club is performing well financially, club amenities continue to be well utilized by members, and member and employee morale is very high. We are all truly lucky to be enjoying this lifestyle together. As part of the ongoing Strategic Plan, the Veranda renovation is planned to start in Kraig Spina the next 60 days. The management team developed a comprehensive business plan general with oversight from the Board of Governors, the Budget & Finance Committee and manager the Construction Oversight Committee. We will share some highlights on page 4 and 5. We anticipate the proposed Veranda construction to take place in early Spring. The Annual Membership Meeting will be on February 23 at 8:00 pm. In order to ensure we offer a safe meeting but ensure that everyone can participate, we will broadcast the meeting on our YouTube channel. The new Board will be introduced and there will be reports from the outgoing Club President and Treasurer. Immediately following the meeting, the Board will elect officers for the 2021-2022 year. Committee applications will be mailed March 3 and the deadline to return them is March 17. Committees are a valuable resource to the Board of Governors, Leadership Staff and as Member Representatives. We encourage you to consider submitting an application to serve on a committee this year. Our Real Estate sales are very strong. Year over year, we are at double the overall volume of sales compared to last year, so our sales continue to exceed even our pre- pandemic expectations. The club has been aggressively marketing our country club lifestyle online, and we are very pleased with the results of our digital campaign in the first quarter of 2021. Once again, we are grateful to the members who assist with our membership sales process by recommending the Club to friends and family members. Thank you to everyone who attended Roundtable meetings in January. Roundtables will continue through March to discuss the upcoming Veranda renovation and other Club projects. We are planning several more in the weeks ahead. Please contact our Office Manager, Catherine Tirino, at 561-498-3606 ext. 131 or ctirino@gleneagles.cc to inquire about available dates. As we prepare for summer 2021, we hope that many of our members will choose to spend their summer with us. The Club will soon be distributing a survey where we will be asking for you to let us know about your summer plans. Our hope is that many of our members will again choose to spend more of their summer at Gleneagles, and we look forward to a summer full of fun and safe events. We want to thank our membership for their support and the many Board Members and Committee Members who served our club in the past year. We truly could not have gone through the many challenges and modifications to our business model without your guidance and support. Along with the entire staff, I look forward to working with our entire staff, the 2021-2022 Board of Governors and newly appointed committee members who will be guiding our club through the next year. COVER STORY Veranda re-imagined At Gleneagles, our goal is to provide best in class member experiences. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has encouraged the club to think more creatively than ever, we have always approached our venues from a creative perspective that would accommodate a variety of member experiences, from event space, to dining venues, to fitness venues, and even meeting and work spaces. THE VISION We are very excited to let you know that the club will soon start to make some planned renovations to our Veranda. The Veranda, which opened in 2015, has been a wonderful addition to the club experience, and the planned renovations will result in a more functional, refined, versatile, and flexible space. The elements that our members love about the Veranda – the fire pits, rich natural wood ceiling, and panoramic views of the golf course – will be enhanced in the new concept. 4 the Eagle MARCH 2021
ENHANCING YOUR EXPERIENCE Quite often one of the first questions asked when investing dollars in club facilities, is what ROI (return on investment) can we expect? As Gleneagles is not a traditional for-profit business, we can’t evaluate the investment the same way. With this being said of private clubs in general, the ROI may be thought of as the ROE- Return on Experience. With 60% of our members being year-round residents, we are committed to using all available spaces year- round. With the ability to transition from outdoor dining to a venue protected from the elements, the proposed Veranda facility will be more versatile and adapt quickly to changes in the South Florida weather. VERSATILITY It is now evident that we attract 20-30% more diners When it reopens, the Veranda will offer a variety of to our restaurants with outdoor seating. Although the new Veranda will be first and foremost a restaurant, the club anticipates using parts of it for other purposes, such as pop-up shops, sports education classes and instruction utilizing a simulator, social events including movies, dancing and live shows, lectures, as well as certain healthy lifestyle classes and events such as sound bath meditation and yoga and tai chi classes that can capitalize upon the indoor/outdoor environment. Member feedback from recent Roundtables and operational surveys were an integral part of our new Veranda concept. In addition, as we approach the grand reopening, we will invite the membership to participate in additional Roundtables, focus groups, or surveys to assist in planning for the operation of the new Veranda. Construction will start in early Spring, and anticipated completion is November 2021. MEMBERSHIP NEWS photo by DOROTHY BASS Gleneagles’ Lucky Charms In January, when the COVID-19 vaccine became available in Florida, Gleneagles initially reached out to county, state, and hospital resources in an attempt to provide vaccinations on property to our members. After realizing the hurdles that our members were facing, Gleneagles staff took matters into their own hands to ensure that every member who was interested in a vaccine had the KRISTEN opportunity to get one as soon as possible. LARAIA What started out as a campaign to share every resource possible with our membership turned into DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP a comprehensive vaccine assistance program. At the peak of the program, almost 200 members & MARKETING had requested assistance. By February 15, as a result of notifications to our membership when new 561-637-1201 opportunities became available, and an organized effort by the staff members and club members who graciously offered to book appointments for others, we completely cleared our list of members in residence at the club and in need of assistance. It was not uncommon for our team to collectively book 20 to 30 appointments for members in a day, and we had a team on standby seven days a week. The vaccine assistance program played an integral role in many of our seasonal and especially Canadian members’ plans to return to Gleneagles. Many of these members planned to stay at their other residence and get fully vaccinated prior to making the trip to Florida. However, after learning about the success the club was having in making appointments for our members, and slower vaccination rollouts around the country, many of these members decided to make the trip earlier than expected as they felt the likelihood of getting completely vaccinated was significantly higher at Gleneagles. In the first five weeks of Florida’s rollout of the vaccine, more than 300 members reported to the club that they are fully vaccinated, and we have hundreds more who are awaiting their second shot. As vaccination opportunities expand in Florida to include younger age groups, our assistance program at the club will expand until we ensure that every member who is interested in a vaccine has an opportunity. We continue to welcome our seasonal residents back to the club, and it is truly our pleasure to arrange for a vaccine appointment shortly after your arrival to Gleneagles. 6 the Eagle MARCH 2021

ON OUR GREENS JOE DeMINO, pga director of golf March is here, and what a special month we have in store for you, complete with even a little March madness! 2021 has been a great year. Golf continues to be our member’s favorite activity, with lots of great golf, an amazing amount of holes-in-one and a comprehensive tournament schedule that our members have enjoyed all winter. The weather has been perfect, with only a handful of cold and rainy days. From the members to the staff, we have all had some fun, but we are all keeping safety as our top priority. There truly has been no better place to live and play during the past year, and as employees, trust me when I say that this is the best club to work at during these challenging times also. Thank you to our membership for treating everyone as if we are a family, always putting safety first, and for showing up every day with a smile under your mask and ready to enjoy this amazing life we have at Gleneagles. March is the Club Championship month for men and women in all leagues, and we eagerly anticipate the friendly competition and sportsmanship that will result in ultimately crowning new Club Champions. As has become tradition, we look forward to inviting all of our golf members to spectate the final few holes of the final round so that we can all be together as we find out our new Club Champion. Good luck to all! PRO TIP: PRACTICE TIME With everyone playing more golf due to it being such a safe and enjoyable outdoor activity, practice time has become a very important part of the day for many of our members over the past year. All it takes is a 20 minute warm up before your tee time to get in a quality practice session, as long as you spend the time right. Make sure you mix up your practice swinging into routine – make this work for you. Don’t start with the driver – start with some chips and short shots, and work your way SPRING up to the fairway woods and the driver, and be sure to get in some putts. Take your time – make each shot count, just like if you were out on the course. With practice, remember that it is never how many balls you hit but how good you hit each one. Build that good visual of the golf ball and a good balanced finish, and if you are falling off the shot, slow it down. Remember to keep good balance throughout the shot and good arm speed as well. As always, any questions about the game, just stop in and see any one of the professionals! photo by FRED SINGER 14 the Eagle MARCH 2021
