Mercy Health Sports Medicine Trainer | Trina Brown Office Hours | School Year 2:30pm – 6:30pm Injuries are a part of Athletics – each coach does their best to reduce the risk of injuries through year round weight training, conditioning, proper technique and teaching about nutrition. If an athlete is injured – they should see the trainer FIRST! Let Trina decide if they need . to see a Physician
• COVID-19• General Recommendations - Stay at home when sick. - Design and implement daily screening at home. - Adhere to physical distancing guidelines (six feet between persons) at all times. -Wear a face covering at all times except when on the court/mat competing. - Do not share food, drinks, including water bottles, clothing, towels or other personal items. - Wash hands or use hand sanitizer upon entering and exiting areas.
• COVID-19• Contact Tracing - When a student is in close contact with a person diagnosed with Covid-19. - Within 6 feet of a person diagnosed with COVID-19 for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more. - If a student is contact traced, they will quarantine for 14 days from last exposure of the person who tested positive. - Day 1 of the quarantine starts after last exposure. Ex: exposure on Wednesday, Day 1 begins Thursday.
• COVID-19• Spectator guidelines: • All fans are required to wear a face covering. They must wear the face covering for the duration of the contest. • If fans have an exemption for face covering, they are asked not to attend. We want to keep our kids playing. • All fans may enter either the athletic entrances. • There will be concessions, but a very reduced and simplified version. Fans are asked to eat before they arrive. • The bleachers have been marked to help socially distance. • We ask that every spectator socially distance.
• COVID-19• Spectator guidelines: • Spencerville fans will sit on the home (east side) of the gym and away fans on the visitor (west) side. Rows will be marked for seating and families are encouraged to sit together and 6 feet away from others. • There will be no student sections. Siblings of athletes should be sitting with family. • After the game, fans are asked to leave immediately. There will be no congregating in the gym or in the hallway. • After the game is complete, we are not allowing visiting teams to have a post-game meal inside our school building.
• COVID-19• Boys High School Basketball - Immediate family attends the games. - Ticket allotment. Basketball players, cheerleaders, pep band. - Presale only. Must have a ticket to enter. Will not be sold at the gate. - Doing presale during lunch hours during the week. Please send money with your student. - Away games will be different. Communication will happen each week.
• COVID-19• Girls High School Basketball - Immediate family attends the games. - Ticket sold at the gate. All tickets are $5.00. - Are not accepting passes. - Don’t want to limit crowd size if we don’t have to. - Away games will be different. Communication will happen each week.
• COVID-19• Junior High Basketball - Immediate family attends the games. - Ticket sold at the gate. All tickets are $3.00. - Will play most of the games in the main gym. - Don’t want to limit crowd size if we don’t have to. - Are not accepting passes. - Away games will be different. Communication will happen each week. - When games are in aux gym, we will have to limit crowd size. - We will also have to clear the gym between games.

All tickets are $3.00. - Will play most of the games in the aux gym. - Are not accepting passes. - Don’t want to limit crowd size if we don’t have to. - Away games will be different. Communication will happen each week.
• COVID-19• Wrestling - Right now we are hearing no spectators at invitationals. - Will communicate with families each week on what the protocol is. - Adding NWC tri-matches starting in January to accommodate loss of tournaments. - Want to have fans if possible, will have to limit.
• COVID-19• Cheerleading - Will cheer home boys & girls games. - Will not travel to away games this year.
• COVID-19• Pep Band - Will perform at boys varsity home games. - Will perform at some girls varsity games. - You may not see other schools have a pep band at away events.
• COVID-19• Livestreaming - We will livestream events all Varsity & JV events. - Zsports3 will provide play by play. - Not a professional production! - Away events will be different every location we go to. - We will livestream all JH events when we have to limit (aux gym). - We will livestream wrestling if we have to limit. - Livestream location is app.wosn.tv

• Why Interscholastic Athletics & OHSAA Beliefs Participants in interscholastic athletics programs should engage in a well- rounded experience that includes participation in a multitude of extracurricular activities. In interscholastic athletics: • Student academic achievement and success take priority over athletics achievement and success. • The success of a TEAM is more important than individual awards. Participation in interscholastic athletics programs is a PRIVILEGE, not a right.

OHSAA Eligibility High School Must have passed (5) one credit courses, or their equivalent, in the preceding grading period for high school. Age requirements: 20 years old = Ineligible immediately Junior High (7th / 8th grade) Must have passing grades in a minimum of (5) subjects in the preceding grading period. *All courses in which a student receives a grade count toward eligibility Age Requirements: 15 prior to Aug 1 – ineligible for Junior High DO NOT DROP OR CHANGE CLASSES without checking with guidance office!
CCP Athletes CCP Students are required to submit grades each quarter CCP Student Eligibility Check – Mr. Gephart Online Classes – email from professor **Failure to submit by established deadline results in denial of participation until form is received** DO NOT DROP OR CHANGE CLASSES without checking with guidance office!
• Concussions • It is EXTREMELY important for everyone involved in school sports to recognize the potential dangers associated with concussions and review their responsibilities in protecting student-athletes. • Concussions are NOT just a problem in football . . . concussions can happen in just about any sport!
• Concussions • In Ohio, any athlete who exhibits signs, symptoms, or behaviors consistent with a concussion . . . such as loss of consciousness, headache, dizziness, confusion or balance problems . . . shall be IMMEDIATELY removed from the contest or practice and shall not return to play that same day. • Thereafter, the student shall not return to practice or competition until cleared with WRITTEN AUTHORIZATION from a physician or health care provider approved by the local board in accordance with state law.
Attendance Guidelines – 8:15am Rule All students are expected to attend a full day of school. Student-athletes absent during any portion of the school day for an excused absence approved by the High School Principal will be permitted to participate in practice or a contest on the day of the absence. If a student has an unexcused absence, they will not be able to participate in practice or a contest on the day of the unexcused absence.
Transportation Waiver Form It is the expectation of the school that students ride the bus to and from ALL contests In approved situations, the Athletic Transportation Waiver Form may be used to provide alternate transportation on a case by case situation. It MUST be completed and signed by a parent, coach, and administrator prior to the trip! This form can be found in the office.
Important Eligibility Fact! During the sport season, you may not participate on a non- school team in the same sport in which you are participating for the school. For Example… Club Volleyball AAU Basketball If you participate in anything (ie. try-outs, practices, open gyms) DURING the sport season, you will be INELIGIBLE!

Sportsmanship • When you attend an athletic event, home or away, you are representing the Spencerville Community, Spencerville Local Schools, and our athletes. • Good sportsmanship is a clear quality of good character • Be a good role model for your children • Encourage your children to take personal responsibility of situations • If it is always someone else’s fault, we undermine the growth athletics can provide
• Respect The Game That means you are expected to accept the responsibility and privilege of representing your school and community while participating in school sports. You are expected to: • Treat opponents, coaches and officials with respect. • Ensure that your actions do not incite fans or other participants or attempt to embarrass, ridicule or demean others.
