Talking Up a Storm! Recently Callum Du from KS competed in the finals of the Ultimo Operational Directorate Public Speaking Competition, having earned talked up a storm at school and regional level contests. Callum was awarded “Runner Up” in the early Stage 1 competition - what an outstanding achievement! Callum’s classmates and parents were all extremely happy for him, just as we all are. Well done Callum, great work! Parent Helper Recognition Today we held a special assembly and morning tea to acknowledge the hard work of our parent community and the ways in which they help us provide a rich learning environment for students. Mrs McDaniel did a wonderful job of organising a presentation ceremony for parents, attended by students and staff, followed by a morning tea (it was actually more like a feast!) in the staffroom. Thank you Mrs McDaniel and to all staff who assisted and provided food. Thank you to those parents who attended, your support means the world to us and we couldn’t do what we do without you. 2018 Staffing and Classes Staff have commenced the process of placing students into class groups for 2018. When undertaking this important task we consider academic and social factors, student needs, gender weighting and so on, to ensure that children are appropriately placed. At this stage we anticipate have 4 preschool classes and 37 class K-6. White Ribbon Day On Tuesday Mrs Plimmer and I had the privilege of attending the launch of Cabramatta Local Area Command’s 2017 “White Ribbon Day” event with Caitlyn Jiw, Elayne Huynh and Fiona Nguyen from 5/6K. The students read original poetry to the audience, their poems focusing on the 2017 WRD theme of “Togetherness”. Our school will participate in the march on Friday 24 November, which begins at Cabra Vale Park at 9:30am, making its way to Freedom Plaza where our choir will perform. All school community members are invited to attend; come along and join us in this great initiative. Kindergarten and Preschool Orientation Our 2018 Kindergarten and Preschool teams have been doing great things with our incoming students, weekly programs and meetings being of great benefit not just for the new students but also for their mums and dads. Thank you to all staff who have been involved in these programs, particularly Mrs Plimmer, Mrs Chau, Mrs Capra, Mrs Geer, Mrs Dabit and Mrs Moussaoui. Solar Power This week we received advice from the Department of Education that a large solar power installation will be provided to our school, panels being located on the roofs of the hall, A Block and J Block. This will greatly reduce both our energy bills and environmental footprint. I will advise the school community in regard to installation dates once they are confirmed.
2018 Student Leaders Year 5 students aspiring to be elected to Student Leader position for 2017 have been working with Mrs Cooper and will deliver their speeches to students on Tuesday. The importance of the student leader role cannot be underestimated as these students serve as roles models for their peers; I would like to wish all students involved the very best of luck. School Concerts A reminder that our school concerts will be held at Club Marconi on Wednesday 6 December, with tickets now available from the school office. This promises to be a fantastic event that showcases the creative and performing arts talents of our students and staff. Grab your tickets now to avoid disappointment! A message from Preschool We wish to thank our amazing families and exceptional CLO’s for their generosity, kind words and hard work this World Teacher’s Day. It was such a rewarding and humbling experience for all of the educators at the Preschool. We have already reached the second half of Term 4 and we can see how our preschoolers are so excited to begin Kindergarten next year. We are so proud of them during their Kindergarten Orientation as they are showing their maturity and enthusiasm as expressed by the teachers in their new classes for the following year. This week we shall continue our transition to Kindergarten for our preschoolers by continuing our visits around the school getting the children familiar with their new environment for 2018. We are looking forward to our Christmas Show on Wednesday 22 November from 9:30 am that will be held in the School Hall for ALL our Preschool classes, Preschool Green/Yellow/Blue and Red. We have also begun practising for our Preschool Concert where the children are so excited to perform, graduate and sing songs for their families. Our concert will be held in the School Hall and the concert dates will be Wednesday 6 December for Preschool Green/Yellow and Thursday 14 December for Preschool Blue/Red. We are looking forward to Santa’s visit who will be surprising all of us here at the preschool. With love and care The Preschool Team

Vietnamese Language Class Supernovas 5E: Albert, Brendan and Ryan (Lớp Tiếng Việt làm Project với tựa đề Physical Phenomena) Supernovas are basically stars that explode. They are two stars orbiting at one point and at least one of the stars is a carbon-oxygen white dwarf. Stealing the other stars matter and eventually too much matter can make it explode. A star can also create a supernova by pumping too much radioactive energy and then collapses itself. When it collapses, it pulls in all the energy around it and either turns into a black hole or supernova releasing all the energy back out exploding with a giant radius of nuclear energy, destroying everything around it stretching out for trillions of miles away. After the supernova, it releases minerals such as cobalt, iron and other rare minerals. Sau vụ nổ siêu tân tinh, nó giải phóng các khoáng chất như coban, sắt và các khoáng chất quý hiếm khác. https://www.nasa.gov/audience/forstudents/5-8/features/nasa-knows/what-is-a-supernova.html What would the world be like if we did not recycle? By: Janice Nguyen 5/6K (Lớp Tiếng Việt) We live in a world of 7.4 billion people, and on average each man produces 1.98 kg of waste a week. If we do not recycle we will probably be buried beneath all the garbage that we have not recycled. Recycling is one of the most important things us humans need to do in our lives to continue to live. We need to recycle and not waste things. For example if you have some paper left that you don't need, than you could probably save it as some scrap paper or make something like a crane out of it. Wasting things have become a huge habit to most people we find that most people cannot change it. By throwing everything away and not reusing or recycling them will cause the landfill to fill up. They start to release a horrible smell and end up being toxic from all the harmful chemicals coming from Styrofoam, batteries, microwaves, cleaning supplies, and other household products.
