ST. GEORGES ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL NO. 4666 ‘Knowledge, Service, Happiness’ Week 4 Term 3— Thursday, August 16th 2018 Website: www.stgeorges.vic.edu.au G.V. Water—Incident Response Event G.V.Water Leadership program: On Wednesday, the 8th August, GV Water came to visit us and completed a mock incident with the grade 6’s. We were assigned a problem to fix. The problem was to fix a blocked pump in the community. We were put into groups and had different roles to play in resolving the problem using a range of real life strategies to come up with a solution. It was a challenge but the we all had lots of fun. [Co- Written by Madi Deith and Isabelle Lavis]. Prep Open Day: will take place on Wednesday Aug 22nd commencing at 9:15am for our Preps commencing school in 2019. The program is structured for an engaging program for our students in the Prep classrooms, and a separate session for parents in the staffroom. How the Murray River was Made Mosaics in school entrance: We are very proud of the beautiful mosaics that have been mounted on the front wall of our administrative building. This artwork was the result of our Sharingstories project and depicts the story of ‘How the Murray River was Made’, which has become our special story shared by local community members. Our grade 5 students completed the mosaic in Mrs Sofola’s art sessions. We see it as a welcoming symbol for our community and invite you all to come and admire this amazing achievement. Star Student Scholarship Expressions of Interest: Grade 5s’Expressions of Interest due tomorrow –at the front desk. Parent Opinion Survey: The Parent Opinion survey is conducted every year. The information from the surveys helps us make important decisions. Several parents have been part of this process so far. We had additional sessions in the week ahead. Friday August 17th — Arabic speaking families and Wednesday, August 20th for Dari speakers—supported by our Multicultural aides. Monday 20th for English speaking families. All of these sessions are at 2:30pm Save the Date: 2018 school production –’When I Grow Up’ Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th September Monday, Aug 13th Reading Challenge begins Reading Challenge is underway. The Wednesday, Aug 15th Winter Sports Program Gr 5 & 6 two week Reading challenge is on again. Get Reading everyone! Attendance & Punctuality. We are aiming for a school wide attendance rate of 95% . Some of our classes are consistently achieving this. When we have high attendance and punctuality we have stronger engagement and student achievement. Primary School Pick My Project Labyrinth St. Georges Road Primary School-Shepparton has submitted an Expression of Interest in the Pick My Project community grant to complete a Labyrinth on our school grounds. The Labyrinth will complement the school environment to promote social and emotional health. Engagement & Wellbeing staff, teachers, support staff, Therapeutic Play Therapists and the local community will utilise the classic designed Labyrinth to support individual and small groups of chil- dren. This will support learning and social development. We encourage all staff, parents and the surrounding community to get online to vote for this valua- ble project. The more votes we obtain, the better chance we have on receiving funding for our school. Anyone over the age of 16 years of age can vote. You must also reside within a 50km radi- us of Shepparton. Tell your friends, family, staff and members of the community to vote. FEES & NETBOOK PAYMENTS DUE Statements will go home this Thursday to all families. Curriculum Enhancement Term 3 Instalment was due on 10th August, 2018. If you have not paid your instalments for 2018 by the due date. Please do so by Monday, 20th August, 2018. Netbook instalments are due on Monday, 3rd September, 2018. If you have not made this payment, please do so by this date.

Just another ordinary day by Rod Clement Cody Reviewer: What is the book about? Its about a girl called Amanda and what an ordinary day is for her. Cody Reviewer: : Why is the book so special? If you read the book without looking at the pictures then it is simple plain book. The illustrations are fantastic and really bring the book to life. The pictures make the story great. The program incorporates ball skills and general movement required for the game of Netball. Activitys promote fitness along with learning the words used to progress to games with “Learn as you Play” Program later in the year confidently! Growth Mindset tip of the week… A Growth Mindset enables us to make improvements to our learning abilities. We can all grow our learning capacity. When students are engaged in the learning process, their results improve. We have students who love to learn in their leisure time. Our knitting program (term 2 & 3) is run by committed volunteers who come along each Tuesday lunchtime to teach a group of students how to knit.
