How to Register • Schools or early care sites that serve 2 or more local foods or full day’s menu that includes local food • Colleges and universities can also participate Peas and kohlrabi from Postville CSD school garden. Watermelon from local farm.

School Success! Even in the midst of a pandemic Iowa schools shine! Participants of the 2020 Iowa LFD served more than 20 different locally grown fruits and vegetables, cheese, yogurt, grains, eggs and beef, pork, and turkey.

Local Food Day Sub-grants • Schools: 12 - $1,000 • CACFP Child Care Center: 10 - $500
Sub-Grant Criteria • Participate in the Local Food Day Webinar • Register for Local Food Day on October 13th • USDA Child Nutrition Programs (SSO, NSLP, SBP, CACFP) • Description of activities to support the purchase of local foods • Estimated budget (food expenditures cannot exceed 20% of sub- grant) • Submit photos and a video of your activities • Activities Completed: October 1- 31, 2021 • Deadline to apply: September 24, 2021

Allowable Expenses • Equipment and Supplies • Coolers, processing equipment, salad bars, etc. • Slicers, food processors, electric skillets, knives, etc. • Gardening and/or farming supplies • Sole purpose of preparing, purchasing, promoting, storing, and serving local foods. • If not fully dedicated, % must be noted • Example: Salad Bar $2,000 25% of space will be used for local foods 75% will be used for non-local foods Total allowable cost to claim towards grant: $500
Food Expenses • No more than 20% of sub-grant can be used for food • May not be used to purchase food that is part of a reimbursable child nutrition meal • Can be used for educational purposes • Farm to School sample tables • Taste test opportunities • Promotional use
Promotional Items • Allowable if directly related to grant activities • Should not exceed 5% of the total sub-grant • $500 subgrant • $25 allowed for promotional items
