Feeding South Florida’s FOOD FRENZY WHAT IS THANKSGIVING FOOD FRENZY? Feeding South Florida’s Thanksgiving Food Frenzy is a friendly competition designed to help end hunger in South Florida and provide for families during the Thanksgiving holiday. Groups host Food + Fund Drives and earn volunteer hours for the chance to win the title of “Ultimate Hunger Hero” in their designated category! The friendly food + fund drive competition is open to everyone FOOD FRENZY throughout South Florida. Schools, restaurants, law firms, healthcare companies, financial institutions, and all other groups are welcome to participate! The purpose of Feeding South Florida’s Thanksgiving Food Frenzy is to engage the community in a way that inspires and invites the most support possible for our families during the holiday season. Involve your group in our mission to end hunger in South Florida by providing immediate access to nutritious food, lead hunger and poverty advocacy efforts, and transform lives through innovative programming and education. In South Florida, 1 in 5 kids and 1 in 8 individuals don’t know where they will get their next meal. In many ways, South Florida is a paradise. But for the 706,130 individuals – more than 240,000 of whom are children - hunger is a reality. But you can be a part of the solution this Thanksgiving! The good news is that you can help your community and those in need of assistance by participating in Feeding South Florida’s Thanksgiving Food Frenzy. HOW TO WIN! FOOD FRENZY Becoming the next “Ultimate Hunger Hero” is easy! All you have to do is collect the most meals by doing the following: HOST A FOOD DRIVE Every 1.2 lbs. = 1 meal. Use our food drive flyer, get creative with your bins, and collect food! RAISE FUNDS Every 1.2 lbs. of food = 1 meal! Every $1 = 6 meals! Start an online fundraiser and view our “inspiration guide” for other ideas! Use our Food Drive flyer and start collecting food. The more you collect the more meals we can provide for our neighbors in need of food assistance!
RULES + GUIDELINES FOOD FRENZY DATES Thanksgiving Food Frenzy runs October 29, 2018 – November 12, 2018. HOW TO WIN Provide the most meals by donating pounds of food and raising funds! POINT SYSTEM (Based on meals raised) Food: 1.2 pounds = 1 meal Funds: $1 = 6 meals EARN BONUS POINTS! Volunteer: Total pounds sorted is converted into meals Social Media: Each post mentioning Feeding South Florida is 1 point (1 meal) *Must occur between October 29, 2018 – November 12, 2018. GENERAL RULES Donations must be received by 5:00 p.m. on November 12, 2018 at either FSF or FPBC to be counted toward the competition. Donations can be delivered Monday-Friday, 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. If a group delivers all food and monetary donations to FSF or FPBC directly, your group will receive a 20% bonus of the total meals donated by the group. All groups compete within their industry. (Example: legal, schools, finance, etc.) (Schools are broken into elementary, middle, high, and college.) Groups with multiple offices or locations will compete as a single entity. The total number of meals collected, including all bonus points, will be totaled and divided by the number of employees in the group. This becomes the per capita figure and is designed to “level the playing field” for smaller groups. This does not apply to schools. Once your group has registered, you will receive our logo usage agreement which must be completed and returned prior to receiving and using our logo. FOOD DRIVES Non-perishable items only. Please do not donate items in glass jars or expired items. Please do not open items that are already in packed cases, cartons, or boxes. FSF can only pick up food drives 1,000 lbs. or more – no exceptions!
START YOUR FOOD DRIVE FOOD FRENZY 1. Be sure to register at https://form.jotform.com/sangelesvsb/foodfrenzy 2. Plan a time, place, and type of collection vessel(s) for your food drive. Get creative and use things like cardboard bins for your food vessels! 3. Set a goal! Remember every 1.2 lb. = 1 meal! 4. Turn in the Feeding South Florida logo usage agreement, and receive approval for any flyers, t-shirt designs, or other kinds of distribution materials. 5. Publicize and conduct your food drive! 6. START FUNDRAISING FOOD FRENZY Raise money with friends, family and/or group members by hosting a virtual fund drive! Get started. Go to https://www.firstgiving.com/event/FEEDINGSOUTHFLORIDA/Fee ding-South-Florida-s-Food-Frenzy On the campaign page, click the Fundraise button. Create an account. Create your FirstGiving account by filling out the form and clicking “Next.” If you have used FirstGiving before, just click the “Sign in with email” button and enter you email and password or click the “Sign in via Facebook”. Create a team. You’ll be asked if you would like to join a team. Select “I want to create my own team” and enter your team name and a team description (optional). On the campaign page, click the Fundraise button. Customize your page. Customize your fundraising page as much or as little as you’d like. You can: • Customize the text on the page and/or edit the title • Upload your own image or choose one of the default pictures to use • Set a goal amount (this will create a progress bar on your page) • Make the first donation to your page straight from this screen! This helps you raise more money since donors will arrive at a page that is already up and running You’re done! When you’ve made all the edits you’d like to make, click “Next”. Congrats, you’ve successfully created a fundraising page! You will receive a confirmation e-mail. Remember to decide on a fundraising goal and check out our inspiration ideas for easy ways to help end hunger for our families in need.
INSPIRATION GUIDE FOOD FRENZY RENZY PAYROLL GIVING Individuals wishing to donate a portion of their pay to Feeding South Florida are encouraged to talk to their HR or Finance departments. Ensure colleagues can donate a portion of their paycheck on a regular basis. Take it a step further and ask your company to match your contribution! DONATION BOX Host and display a donation box in your organization or school! The boxes are bright orange to help raise awareness about the issue of hunger. They also let contributors know their $1 provides 6 meals! Hosting a donation box is as simple as registering. To register, please visit www.jotform.us/sangelesvsb/DonationBox. DRESS-DOWN DAY Host a “Casual for a Cause” day at your office or school. Encourage your colleagues (and/or students) to donate funds in exchange for the opportunity to “dress down” (wear non-dress code attire) to work. For schools, think of a fun theme: school colors, pajama day, crazy hat day, etc.! HOST AN EVENT Host a casual gathering for FSF, such as a wine night, happy hour, etc. Provide employees with free drink(s) and/or appetizers with a suggested donation of $20 at the door. This is the perfect opportunity to have employees connect while giving back to the community. For schools, bake sales are a great idea! DEDICATED E-BLAST / NEWSLETTER Send personalized e-mails to friends, family, colleagues, and fellow philanthropists asking them to help end hunger in our own backyard by supporting Thanksgiving Food Frenzy. Remember to include your fundraising page link. You can also include the same details in your company newsletter. GET CREATIVE! Some of the best food and fund drives come from the creativity and originality of folks like you! From starting friendly internal competitions to creating the most original food drive vessel, and rewarding the most funds raised, have fun with it!
VOLUNTEER – EARN BONUS POINTS! FOOD FRENZY Groups can earn bonus points by volunteering at Feeding South Florida or Feeding Palm Beach County. This can be a great team-building experience and makes donations more meaningful by experiencing the process hands-on so please encourage your group to volunteer! Due to space restrictions, we cannot accommodate walk-ins so please register before arriving. NOTE: Please reference Food Frenzy in your communication so we ensure you receive your bonus points. Please register as a team. ATTIRE Please wear comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt and jeans. Please do not bring purses or valuables into the warehouse. CLOSED-TOE SHOES must be worn and no heels please. PLEASE NOTE: Children ages 12+ welcome. Children 12-16 require parental supervision.
