SEPTEMBER 2021 One way that we attempt to instill these values is through our Friendship Initiative, which is a school-wide effort that we began a few years ago. Through this initiative, we very intentionally worked to ensure that students were positively connected here at school with peers. I’m happy to report that our efforts have been acknowledged by the Character Education Partnership (character.org), which is the leading national organization that works to establish positive character education in schools. Over the summer we received a “Promising Practice” award from this prestigious organization for our Friendship Initiative. We intend to continue to implement this approach as we teach our children our EAGLE values. I’d also like to share two project updates as we start this new school year. First, our library has been renovated, and it is beautiful! The best thing that I did as principal was to step out of the way and let our very talented staff handle the design, and they did a fantastic job. I hope you will drop by and take a look in the coming days and weeks. Thanks to our PTO, we are close to the completion of our newly renovated track. Severe supply chain delays and a tremendous amount of summer rain has meant that the final application of the rubberized surface layer has not yet been applied, but that will be taken care of in the coming weeks. I look forward to this track benefitting all our students this year and going forward for many, many more. SEPTEMBER 2021 WE ARE ALL IN FOR EAST! September 20-24, 2021 What is ALL IN FOR EAST? WE ALL LOVE EAST & this is an easy way to show it! ALL IN FOR EAST is our LARGEST FUNDRAISER! We are not asking you to sell anything! All the money we raise goes straight to our amazing school! Thanks to the generosity of East families during last year’s campaign the PTO was able to renovate the track on the back playground along with supporting the overall annual budget. Watch Last Year's Thank You Video. Why ALL IN FOR EAST? Due to COVID, hard decisions had to be made in altering our long-held fundraisers -Carnival and Bowling in the Hills. While we are excited to hold Carnival this year, it will not be a fundraiser as it has in the past, but instead, a fun time to celebrate our East family with the same great activities at a much reduced, all-inclusive price for students. We want to continue to provide support to our precious school including funding teachers’ special grant requests as well as contributing to timely needs. This year the money raised will also go towards improvements to the baseball field and greenfield area inside the new track – something East students and the community use daily! This is an opportunity to show that we are ALL IN FOR EAST! GET YOUR FAMILY EXCITED! More information coming soon! WATCH NOW! SUPPORT VHEE PTO while your shop! EAST EXPRESS PAGE 6
