A few ideas: Put glitter or small figures in the soap bottle with the children. Make homemade soap. Have a ‘rewards chart‘ and let them receive a sticker each time they wash their hands. Draw a shape or write something on the hand with lipstick and let the kids wash their hands until it is off. Sing a hand washing song. Tuesday, 12th May Dirty hands or clean hands? (Lerning activity involving drawing, colouring and stencilling) (→ see attached: Schmutzig und sauber - Dirty and clean) Instructions: The page is divided into two parts: clean hands and dirty hands. On the side of dirty hands, have your child colour it in making it look dirty. On the side of clean hands, have your child draw “bubbles”, or use ‚bubble wrap‘ as stencil with paint, for indicating “soap bubbles“. IMPORTANT: Explain to your child that our hands are dirty after doing certain activities (e.g. going to the toilet, blowing your nose, eating, playing with animals, playing outside) and that our hands get clean by washing them properly with soap. PLEASE teach your child how to wash their hands properly after all the activities indicated in the paragraph above !!! 2

DHPS Kindergarten (Over-3-Group) Weekly plan for 11.05.2020 –20.05.2020 DEUTSCHE HÖHERE PRIVATSCHULE WINDHOEK (DHPS) Monday, 18th May Storytime – A Story for Children about Corona Brief von Felix Wenn du diesen Brief liest, denkst du bestimmt, dass ich wieder auf Weltreise bin. Also, ran an die Waschbecken! Ganz oft an jedem Tag. Translated from German Letter from Felix When you read this letter, you will think that I am on a trip around the world. Otherwise that is true quite often, but now I am at home with my best friend Sophie. Like all other children, she can not go to school at the moment, and her little sister Lena cannot go to kindergarten. Just why? Well, the adults talk a lot about something called the Corona Virus. At your home too? Such a virus is tiny, so small that you can only see it with a microscope. But it is really dangerous! At first I thought, pah, I have already seen wild animals. Do you still remember in Rome? A roman cat beast chased me once. I donet look like a grey mouse, do I? But back to that stupid Corona Virus. I tell you this is much meaner than you can imagine. Because you can easily transfer it to other people if you sneeze or cough on them. You can of course hug mom and dad as long as they are healthy. Now we have to stay at home and keep our distance from everyone else. How far? Take two big steps, then you know. Do you also really want to annoy the nasty virus? It works like this: you do it every time you wash your hands with soap for a long time. So get to the sink! And there is something else you can do to chase the virus away: always sneeze or cough in your elbow. You can do it, I am sure you can. Ok, after a while it is no fun at all, but Sophie’s mom came up with something! Every morning Sophie and her siblings cut and paint a medal for bravery. If it worked well during the day, they will receive their medal in the evening. 5

Take care of yourself, yours Felix *this story was written by Annette Langen, a German children’s books author You can download and print out the medal from her website www.annettelangen.de Tuesday, 19th May Germs and Ladders Game (→ see attached: Keime & Leitern Spiel - Germs & Ladders Game) Instructions: This game is like snakes and ladders but instead of snakes you have germs. You just need a dice and small objects to play with.
