Year 11 Christian Living Hello all, On Wednesday of Week 4 the Year 11 students, as part of Christian Living, staged their annual Fundraiser, to raise funds for the RSPCA. The cohort of students worked together brilliantly, and it was a really pleasing team effort. We had a sausage sizzle, pancakes, lolly bags, biscuit decorating, art competition, hot noodle challenge, photo booth, hot chips, choc fruit skewers, toasties, games and much more. The event was student driven, with each group coming up with their own ideas for the stalls. To ensure that lots of money was raised, the Year 5s and 6s from Bethany Christian School were invited to participate during their Lunch Time. We are very proud of the Year 11s, as they made a profit of $840. Their hard work in helping not only to raise funds, but in building community, is greatly appreciated by all. Thanks to all the staff who donated their time to ensure the event was a success, particularly Miss Mott and the Home Economics team, Mr Sibly, Mr Ziersch and the IT department, Mr Dunn and Mr Fanto, and Mrs Down- ing and the Administration team. Most of all, thanks to the Year 11s for their dedication, and to all those who participated within the school commu- nity. Blessings, Mr Ryan, Mr Hudson, Mrs Wolf and Mr Jeffree Year 11 Christian Living Teachers Drivers Licences & Road Safety On August 13th, the Year 10s had a visit from SA Police about Drivers Licences and Road Safety. Leon Le said that it was ‘really informative and it made everyone more aware of how important road safety is’. Andrew Tran felt that it caused him to have a ‘better under- standing of how a death impacts others’. Many students, including Sopheara Hean, learnt that ‘older cars are not as safe as newer cars’. Vien Cajipe stated that ‘the death rate of car crashes also shocked me and really made me wonder about my future choices on the road’. Students were encouraged to visit mylicence.sa.gov.au for further information regarding licencing in South Australia. We thank SA Police for coming and presenting to the Year 10s. Book Week Throughout Week 5 of this term, Temple celebrated a love of all things books and reading through Book Week. Teachers and stu- dents engaged in a variety of activities around the theme 'Find Your Treasure'. The library was transformed into a jungle; be- tween the greenery and creepy-crawlies, all kinds of favourite and treasured books were found and borrowed throughout the week by the students. Reflecting on words and books that have inspired them, students and staff contributed to our ever-growing Treasure Tree. The Treasure Tree is now covered in leaves denoting favourite quotes from books and inspirational people. Students played giant chess and checkers, enjoyed board games and read books on a sunny Wednesday afternoon, as we took the library to the lawn in the courtyard. On Friday, some creative staff and students dressed up as their 'most treasured characters' as a part of Dress Up Day. Congratulations to all who were involved - especially to Cameron Joy as Mr Bean, Theresa Aleppilly Biju and Esther Wong as Moana and HeiHei, Wendy Sen as Little Red Riding Hood, and Mrs Jodie Halford as the Ranger's Apprentice, who were our 'best dressed' for the day. World Vision - 40 Hour Famine Once again, Temple Christian College, Paralowie Cam- pus, made a huge impact on the life of the ones in need. This year’s campaign was focused on the refugee crisis. We are all aware this is a huge issue we are facing worldwide. In week 5 of this term, (from Wednesday to Friday) we did the 40 hour famine. Students from different year levels got involved and went without talking; phones; food or furniture for 40 hours, raising more than $10,000. We would like to thank the whole Temple community for sponsoring our students throughout the whole process. We look forward to next year’s Challenge. Acts 20:35—”In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Mauricio Martinez SACSA Football On Wednesday 22nd August, we were treated to a dry & sunny day at West Beach for the Year 8/9 SACSA Football Carnival. Our boys were quietly confident heading into the day and they began well in the round robin stage of the tournament. We progressed through undefeated, finishing top of our pool. Our boys were gel- ling as a team with players adjusting to different positions accord- ingly. C. Cromwell was showing flair off a half back flank, T. So- bey was doing it all and D. Whelan & D. Miles were providing a constant threat up forward. In the Semi Final, we overcame Kings 5.1.31-2.3.15 and then faced Temple Mile End in the Grand Final. Unfortunately, Mile End kicked 5 unanswered goals in the second half to finish as 18 point winners. Coach Agnew cast votes at the end of each game in a Brownlow Medal style voting system. Leading the way with 11 votes each were B. Fensom & J. Thach, with Fensom standing out as a highlight through his second efforts and Thach for his impeccable reading of the play and intercept marking. Massive thanks to Moni for goal umpiring. Congratulations to all our boys, finishing 2nd overall. Having further developed their handballing, tackling and defensive skills since the previous carnival, the 8/9 Girls Football Team was excited and ready to participate in the SACSA Carnival. Winning their first few matches through some ferocious tackling and accu- rate kicking, the girls became more confident. Coming up against some stronger teams throughout the afternoon tested them, but their resilience and desire to improve was impressive. Alicia Him and Leeane Estimada were formidable in defence, while Trinity Danh and Wathana Chhen moved the ball through the midfield with speed and agility, receiving the ball expertly delivered by Rachael Savage in the ruck. Goal sneaks Aliya Watkins and Chel- sea Joy kicked the team to victory on multiple occasions. Congrat- ulations girls, on a successful day! Sam Agnew & Jessica Anthony
