(answer below) In line with our values, we ran an Eco diagnostic on our website to see how much carbon we used this year. We were delighted with the results! To offset our 72kg of CO2e, we have donated four trees through the Woodland Trust. Green jobs will be key to us as a country reaching net-zero. DEC. 2021 Careers of the Future See below for details of new virtual Internships launching in January 2022 from shift() Technology is the future The future is technology shift() shift() are preparing the next generation for the future (their name doesn’t have a capital letter and it’s been done on purpose.) shift() aims to educate the next generation on how technology is being used in the legal industry. Legal firms have started embracing technology and are showing creativity in incorporating it into their work lives. As a result of all the hype, the phrase “legal tech” (short for “legal technology”) came about. It’s a buzzword often thrown around but not many people truly understand what legal tech is. That is exactly why STRIVE created shift() – a project that will develop the next generation so that they have a stronger understanding of the new digitalised world they live in. How did shift() come about? shift() was created by STRIVE, a hugely-popular mentoring programme that coaches aspiring solicitors from under-privileged backgrounds and helps them secure training contracts at commercial law firms. Its offering is always based on students’ needs. A couple of years ago, there was limited support for aspiring lawyers who came from non- traditional backgrounds. Then came STRIVE, which proved that beating the odds is possible. It offers services that underprivileged university students crave, like reviewing training contract applications and preparing for interviews. Many of these students lack professional connections and have limited access to valuable information. That’s why STRIVE has soared in popularity ever since it launched in 2018.
DEC. 2021 But then a new need arrived - “legal tech”. Law firms are on the lookout for tech- savvy future lawyers who will help grow their businesses. That’s why STRIVE has launched shift() – a programme that encompasses law, technology and diversity. It develops diverse talent so that they’re able to stand out in the eyes of graduate recruiters. shift()’s virtual internships shift() offers 2 programmes: 1. shift (OnDemand) for school students 2. shift (Bootcamp) for university students shift (OnDemand) is a virtual internship that allows students to complete the comprehensive legal tech course in their own time and pace. Students who score above 80%, get to apply to shift (Hack) – a two-day hackathon in London where they will get to meet law firms in person. The whole thing’s a bit like an academy. or shift (Bootcamp) for University Students Launching in January 2022 Live courses that last 8 weeks Only a handful get selected All students are automatically invited to shift (Hack). If you know anyone at university that might be interested in developing their understanding of legal tech, tell them about shift (Bootcamp) Contact shift() There are many ways you can contact shift() and they are very responsive. Send them a direct message on Instagram @shiftbystrive or follow shift() on LinkedIn or get in touch via their website You can also get in touch on LinkedIn with Iqra Ali (Marketing Lead) or anyone else from the shift() team.
Collective Chatter Navigating stormy seas has, more recently, been about donning a face mask, arming ourselves with hand sanitiser, and boldly going, well, anywhere outside of our front door! This year, we have all faced rough weather together, (and we don’t just mean Storm Arwen). Braving the world of work was challenging - even before the constraints of the pandemic, and this year, it became more important than ever to find out who we all are, what drives us, and what is best for us – especially when it comes to our career. At Careers Collective, we have been there with you throughout it all; providing an opportunity to discover new ways to deal with and build more resilience for, a new world of work. That new world was very much on the agenda at COP 26 this year, when countries from across the globe came together to discuss and share climate change solutions that will benefit us all. One world; one collective; together - facing change head on to mitigate stormy weather and cultural and social changes that have an impact globally. Here at Careers Collective, we like to do just the same thing. We like to talk to you; find out who you are and what’s important to you, and even, how we can traverse the world of work together. Propelled at warp speed into a shift that will see employees taking greater responsibility for their well-being in the employment process, we have two new, exciting courses coming in 2022 – Enterprise Your Career and Imagining the Future. So, whether you are a Career Starter, a teacher, a student at college or in school, or if you are already out there; battling a changing employment landscape; you can join with us – Careers Collective – to boldly go (beyond your front door) somewhere none of us have physically gone before – The Future - with a virtual solution to help alleviate the stormy seas. Happy Christmas to you all. We look forward to continuing the careers conversation, together. www.careerscollective.org Career development for all ages and stages
