Coy Weekly Update 1/16/23-1/20/23 No School - Jan. 16 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day STUDENT PICK-UP REMINDER If you are picking your child up early from school, please let the school office know in addition to the teacher, so that we can have your child ready for departure in a timely manner. Thank you! OUTDOOR RECESS WEATHER CHART As the cold weather is among us, it is important to make sure that students are dressed appropriately for the weather. We will continue to go outside for recess so please make sure students have jackets, gloves and hats as needed. Attached to this article is our Child Care Weather Watch guide that we use to determine if the temperatures are appropriate to go outside or not. Click on the guide to the left to enlarge it and to use it as a handy reference when dressing your children in the morning.
WINTER COATS, SHOES AND BOOTS AVAILABLE If your child is in need of a winter coat, gloves, hat shoes or boots, please contact the school office 419-693-0624 with your child's size. We received a generous donation of brand new coats, gloves and hats from the Oregon River-East Teresa Knight of Columbus Council and we have Old Newsboy vouchers available for shoes and boots. Please look for yearbook ordering envelope to come home soon...ordering happening now! Building an Emotional Vocabulary with Feeling Words Parents often encourage their children to "use your words" when getting upset and emotional about something, but it's not always an easy task for children. If we teach our children feeling words that are appropriate for their age, it will help expand their vocabulary and support their emotional growth! Here are some feeling words you could incorporate into their vocabulary this week:
1. Kind 2. Lonely 3. Misunderstood 4. Nervous 5. Optimistic Incorporate more feeling words into your everyday vocabulary and don't feel silly if you have to check this list often. Most adults don't use many feeling words regularly. Sprinkling a few more words into your conversations and inviting your child to share how they're feeling can go a long way toward helping them (and maybe even everyone in the family) build a comprehensive emotional vocabulary. Parent Group Meeting Minutes 1/10/2023 – Introductions were made. Mrs. Molnar explained the need for the parent group to be taken back over by parents. After covid hit and loosing multiple 4th grade parents from the parent group onto next grades the parent group has lacked volunteers. This meeting was held to bring new faces to the table and look for a stronger parent group to help give our children fun events throughout the year. In order to have the fun events (school dances, fall festival, trunk or treat, fun day, assemblies, class field trips, etc) the parent group must fundraise for the funds to have these events. Past fundraising events have been the Read a Thon, book fair, Chipotle night, Kroger, catalogs, etc. Jessica Donley and Sarah Jeurgens are Treasurers for the parent group at this moment. Most parents were in agreement that we wanted all the same fun events that are already “scheduled” for our kids and want to add even MORE, possibly a 2nd field trip for each class, and all the 4th grade activities back, all the incoming Kindergarten activities, etc. In immediate future Coy is looking to completely rebrand the parent group. Willing to throw away titles of “president” etc, Mrs. Molnar is in full support as to whatever this new group decides, looking to move forward with another meeting, have a group email that we can send out newsletters and meeting minutes, and re-establishing the PGA facebook page again. Kirsty Wilson will be the new keeper of that as she is over the family area in her role as school counselor, and she will know what students can and cannot be photographed. The idea of having committees for each event was liked. Have someone in charge of fundraising, winter wonderland, fun day, etc that way one person isn’t getting burnt out at
handling every single event. In order to become lead on event you would sign up at the beginning of the year at the first parent group meeting and collect volunteers and details about the event and send those updates out to the group. Also at first meeting of the year, the budget and schedule would be created for the year. We do not want to do a ton of fundraising and have tons of left over money. Nadia is even willing to meet with parents who may not be able to meet in the evenings and update them in person if that is what we choose. A couple new fundraiser ideas were brought to the table: Amazon Smiles (get ½ % of most purchases on Amazon sent to school), BW3 dine in and carryout, and Culvers. Businesses who want to donate money can do so and we could even make signs, or give a shout out that this event was made possible by “business name”. Friday Feb 24th will be a new event BINGO planned by Kelly … and Madeline Fenton. She will budget $1000 for this event and will bring details to the next meeting. We will start planning and talking more about Fun Day after the BINGO event. Some food trucks are already set up for this event. Next parent group meeting will be scheduled for Feb 7th 7-8pm in the Coy Library. Bring to the next meeting ideas for the new group, new name, ideas for fundraising, thoughts about anything discussed at the last meeting. 2022-2023 MUSIC PROGRAMS Kindergarten: March 23 @ 6:30 1st Grade: Dec. 8 @ 6:30 2nd Grade: Oct. 20 @ 6:30 3rd Grade: Jan. 26 @ 6:30 4th Grade: Nov. 10 @ 6:30 (UPDATED) INTERESTED IN COY SPIRIT WEAR?
