Our Story CodeStack Academy is Stockton’s first immersive and accelerated code school offered by the San Joaquin County Office of Education. As a not-for-profit, CodeStack’s tuition is a fraction of the cost to comparable for-profit code schools. Our only objective is to foster a flourishing community of skilled software engineers, ready to meet the demand of employers, and ultimately change the landscape for technology in Stockton and the greater San Joaquin County. Mission To provide an affordable and thorough education in software engineering, and meet the demand of employers by producing students skilled in bleeding- edge software development practices and technologies. Administration CodeStack Academy is operated by CodeStack, a technology department of the San Joaquin County Office of Education. CodeStack is a software engineering department, focused on developing large scale web, software, and mobile applications for the public sector. CodeStack’s software and services are used in over 5,000 school districts nation-wide and over a dozen state-wide agencies including the Community College Chancellor’s Office, Department of Health Services, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, the State Board of Education and the Department of Education. Life at the academy Here at the CodeStack Academy, we provide a combination of instructor led hands-on workshops, one-on-one mentoring with career-experienced developers, peer-to-peer learning, and real-world project experience.
Facility and Equipment Class Hours CodeStack Academy has one campus location at Monday – Friday 2857 Transworld Dr, Stockton, CA 95206 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Academy Course Breakdown Our 12 month immersive CodeStack Academy Program course allows students to gain the real-world skills to become a software developer. Not only are students learning the skills necessary to be able to develop brand new applications, but they are also learning how to edit existing applications and understanding how projects are developed. To be able to give each student the skills to break down each phase of a project, our students will be able to develop applications while thinking of the entire software development process in mind. At the end of the course, students will have a portfolio of work to demonstrate their skills to future employers. Students will also learn how to properly present themselves digitally as well as in person, thus giving them the best tools to advance their careers to the next level. The below time-line reflects the anticipated course schedule, subject to revision. Coding Combine (4 Weeks) X Object Oriented Programming X Students will learn C# and learn coding design patterns in the first month of the course. Level 1 (7 Weeks) X Front End Development X In Q1 students will learn Front End Development, HTML5, CSS3, SASS, Bootstrap, and Javascript. Level 2 (7 Weeks) X Front End Development and Back End Development X TypeScript, Angular, C# & API Building Level 3 (7 Weeks) X Back End Development X Cloud Computing & Web Apps Level 4 (9 Weeks) X Mobile Apps X Final Project / Professional Practice Level 5 (9 Weeks) X Internship
Admission policy and procedure Entrance requirements: Must be 17 years of age with a High School Diploma or older. Application Procedure: The application process will entail a 4 part process that is designed to enroll students that have enough preparation to be successful in the program. 1. Complete the enrollment application online. a. Go to www.codestackacademy.org to apply 2. Complete and pass a 1 week online course on logic a. You do not need to have any coding knowledge in order to pass this exam. b. This exam covers i. Computer Basics with LMS ii. Logic iii. Flowcharting c. Assignments will be due in the LMS 3. Attend our orientation a. Those who pass the game-based exam will be invited to attend our orientation. b. This is where we go over the enrollment agreement and talk about the entire program in detail. 4. Enroll and pass the Coding Combine a. You will be enrolled into our 4 week coding combine b. It will be 30+ hours of coding where you will learn object oriented programming c. In order to continue on, you must pass the combine. Each participant will receive a letter of acceptance or rejection within 15 days of the interview.
Academic Policies Attendance Policy Code Stack Academy program is an intensive course which requires a 94% attendance rate per level. Code Stack shall use the following formula in calculating student absences: X Students that miss 15 -60 minutes of class time (either by arriving late or leaving early) shall count as 1 Late/Early Day. X Students that miss 60 -200 minutes of class time (either by arriving late or leaving early) shall count as 1 half day. X Students that miss more than 200 minutes of class time (either by arriving late or leaving early) shall count as 1 full day. X 3 Late/Early Days count as 1 absence. X 2 Half Days count as 1 absence. Students will meet with their instructor for a 1 on 1 meeting throughout the course. During this meeting, students will be informed of their attendance issues if, any. Students who have 2 unexcused absences in any level will be placed on probation. The term of the probation shall be a total of 4 weeks from the date the student is placed on probation. During this time period, your attendance will be monitored based on your probation terms. If you do not meet those terms during your probation term, you will then be brought in to a review. During this review, we will go over your overall performance and attendance of the course and begin the termination process, in Code Stack’s sole and absolute discretion. If you had an extenuating factor that prevented you to meet your probation terms, you may appeal the dismissal to be reenrolled on continued probation. Dismissal appeal You have 5 business days to submit a written appeal. In the appeal you must explain the circumstances regarding your attendance problems, and provide satisfactory evidence that this will not affect your attendance moving forward. After receiving the appeal letter, you will be notified of the appeal decision within 5 business days.
Probation Student progress is monitored each week in our course. In the event that a student’s conduct or academic progress falls below an acceptable level, a “performance improvement plan” will be enforced to help the student improve. The following criteria may be used to determine whether a student’s conduct or academic progress falls below an acceptable level: X Getting failing marks on assessments/projects X Missing classes X Unprofessional conduct to teachers and other students X Not completing work in group projects X Not completing the required assignments or projects Missed Assignments The course instructor must be contacted ahead a time for any missed assignments. The course instructor shall have sole and absolute discretion in granting any extensions to submit missed or late assignments. Assessment Days Assessment Days are days where you are presenting your projects to the teachers as well as other students. Students must have advanced approval if they are to miss an assessment day. If it is an emergency, the student must provide proper documentation or they will receive a zero on their project.
Student Services Academic Advising Teachers will conduct 1 on 1 meetings with students to discuss overall progress through the course. If need be, students can schedule additional meetings by contacting the instructor via email. Student Records Student transcripts with official grades and a course description are maintained at Code Stack Academy permanently. These records will include Student Attendance Dates of completion Signed Enrollment agreement Dates of payments Copy of student complaints School disciplinary reports Certificates of completion
