Costa Cálida Chronicle - August 2018 When we think of the beautiful verses of the sparse vegetation here it must be a Psalm 23, we often think of them being difficult task for local shepherds to find read at funerals or to comfort those who green pastures. It’s little wonder that there are ill, but they were written by David, a are more goats than sheep – goats will eat shepherd boy destined to be king. In it he anything! shares his heart – and it’s the heart of the giant killer. Jesus compared himself to a shepherd – He said “I am the Good Shepherd.” As well He had absolute confidence – not in his as caring, loving and guiding us, His sheep, own abilities, but in God – the God of He goes much further and lays down His creation, the God of eternity, the God of life for His sheep. salvation, the only true God – who is his shepherd. As His flock today, we can be sure of His love, His care, His guidance, His Sheep, more than any other livestock, presence and life in all its fullness cannot take care of themselves. The both now and for all eternity. shepherd is responsible for tending his flock, caring for them, feeding them, I wonder today – you might think you protecting them and guiding them to the know the Psalm and can say “The Lord is best places to graze. Looking around at My Shepherd”, but do you really know Him? Do you enjoy His presence, His guidance, His care and protection even in the darkest times? Even in the valley of the shadow of death He promises His presence and there is no shadow without the sun being there. The shadow of a dog can’t bite you The shadow of a gun can’t shoot you The shadow of death can’t destroy you as long as you know the Good Shepherd and the Good Shepherd knows you. David says in the first verse of this Psalm “The Lord is My Shepherd I shall not want.” There is nothing he lacks because of his relationship with his Lord, his Shepherd. David did not lack boldness to go up to that great giant of a man, Goliath and killed him with a slingshot, because he knew that his Shepherd was with him every step of the way. An old hymn says: Wherever He may guide me, No want shall turn me back; My Shepherd is beside me, And nothing can I lack. His wisdom ever waketh, His sight is never dim; He knows the way He taketh, And I will walk with Him. I wonder today – you might think you know the Psalm, but do you really know the Shepherd. Do you know the One who longs to always be there with you, who gave up His life for you, who longs to guide you and provide for you, to lead you into green pastures and restore your soul? If not, why not come and join us at one of our Sunday morning services and we would love to introduce you to Him, Jesus the Good Shepherd. We meet every Sunday at 11am. You can find us in Puerto de Mazarrón in the urbanisation Casa Sol.
