The Dates: ATTENTION ALL MUSIC TEACHERS, STUDENTS & PARENTS JILLIAN PRESCOTT: Saturday, April 20, 2019 Jillian Prescott Music Awards 9 am - 5 pm Sponsored by the Southwest Florida Symphony Society and the Jillian Prescott Memorial Music Fund Florida Gulf Coast University Bower School of Music QUALIFICATIONS: The competition is open to students who are between the ages of 12 and 10501 FGCU Boulevard South 22 as of April 20th, 2019. The applicant must be a legal resident or full-time student residing Fort Myers, Florida in the counties of Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry or Sarasota, Florida, with a student I.D., and U.S. resident (or with passport and work/student visa of F-1 status) and SSN (W-9 eligible). MARILYN VAN SICKLE: Foreign students may apply but may not win a cash prize if these qualifications are not met. Saturday, February 16, 2019 AWARDS: Winner in all categories will receive prize money. The competition is two-tiered. 9 am - 1 pm Youth: ages 12-17 and Young Adult: ages 18-22. The award for the winner in each discipline will Cypress Lake Presbyterian Church be $600. Y O U N G A R T I S T C O M P E T I T I O N The objective of these competitions is to encourage the development of musical talent in young artists and to increase their performance opportunities. Cash awards will be presented to the winners for further study in their chosen field. In addition, all contestants will receive evaluations of work from the judges to aid in their development. CO MPETITIO N R U LE S : • APPLICATION DEADLINES: Van Sickle: February 9, 2019; Jillian Prescott: April 9, 2019 (will be strictly enforced). The application form must be completed and sent with two letters of recommendation and a current photo to: Southwest Florida Symphony Society, Music Awards, 8920 College Parkway, Suite 103, Fort Myers FL 33919. • DRESS CODE: Age-appropriate professional concert attire is expected. • MUSIC: Memorization is required. Entrants should make their own arrangements for an accompanist. If there is difficulty finding an accompanist, call the Symphony office at 418-0996 for assistance. • Judges: The decisions of the judges are final. Each competitor will be notified of the approximate time of their performance prior to the event. • Judges will select winner in each of the five disciplines: woodwinds/brass, percussion, keyboard, strings and voice.
