The funds from this grant are being utilized to increase family and community access to literacy opportunities. Head Start is partnering with BAM (Bennington Area Makers), ACT (Alliance for Community Transformation), and families to design and construct Little Free Libraries to be installed throughout Bennington County. Current secured locations are Pownal Elementary School, the new Spring Center on Gage St. in Bennington, Julia Dr. Shires Housing Development in North Bennington, Arlington Recreation Park, and a Seed Library at the Community Garden. The project continues to gain traction and interest so there will likely be more
libraries added throughout the county. Currently we are in the construction phase of the project with families gathering together at BAM to put these structures together to be installed in the future. These libraries have served as a great engagement opportunity for families to either share skills they already have in the world of design/construction or to gain new skills and confidence within these areas. We are very excited to be facilitating this project to bring easier access to books throughout our community. Our Staff Make UCS Great.
