COMING SOON This month, the Department of Management Services (DMS) will formally begin work to improve the west entrance of the main capitol building, known as Waller Park. When complete, the entrance will be more accessible for visitors and occupants through the construction of elevators and ramps. The project will bring an increased green space to the lower plaza and will provide ample seating for visitors and occupants to enjoy. The Waller Park improvement project will occur in phases over two years and is expected to be completed by the 2023 Legislative Session. FloridaCapitol.MyFlorida.com
ABOUT THE PROJECT ELEVATOR AND STAIR TOWERS The new tower and ramp structures will feature a modern airy design and serve as a new photo location for guests with the Florida Capitol as a backdrop. ABOUT THE PROJECT PLANTER SEATING WALLS The lower plaza will include more modern wall cladding and provide consistency with the recently completed House and Senate plaza projects. UPPER PLAZA STATE SEAL The Great Seal of the State of Florida will be etched into the upper plaza, providing a perfect photo opportunity for groups visiting the complex. PROJECT TIMELINE 2021 Construction on the north elevator and bridge will MAY 2021 TO DECEMBER 2022 take place between May 2021 and December 2022. Construction on the northeast plaza level will take JUNE 2021 TO AUGUST 2022 place between June 2021 and August 2022. Construction on the southeast plaza level will take AUGUST 2021 TO NOVEMBER 2022 place between August 2021 and November 2022. Construction on the east entry and south SEPTEMBER 2021 TO DECEMBER 2021 sidewalks will take place between September 2021 and December 2021. Construction on the northwest plaza level will take OCTOBER 2021 TO DECEMBER 2022 place between October 2021 and December 2022. Construction on the south elevator and bridge will NOVEMBER 2021 TO MARCH 2022 take place between November 2021 and March 2022. Construction on the southwest plaza, in addition to DECEMBER 2021 TO FEBRUARY 2023 construction on the stairs and Duval Street, will take place between December 2021 and February 2023. Construction on the Knott plaza will take place MAY 2022 TO MAY 2023 between May 2022 and May 2023. Construction on the east entry and north MAY 2022 TO OCTOBER 2022 sidewalks will take place between May 2022 and October 2022. Construction on the north stone wall will take MARCH 2022 TO JULY 2022 place between March 2022 and July 2022. WHAT TO EXPECT: By the beginning of each month, a Waller Park Service Update will be sent out detailing anticipated disruptions for that month. A schedule of planned construction and a map of available and unavailable building access points will be included. Anticipated disruptions may include: GENERAL CONSTRUCTION Capitol occupants and visitors may experience loud noises, dust, diverted pathways and rerouted entries, vibrations, smells, construction traffic, and the presence of large machinery. PARKING Capitol occupants may periodically expect changes in available parking areas and access points due to ongoing construction. This information will be included in the Waller Park Service Update. Visitor parking should remain unaffected. RESERVATIONS Capitol occupants, visitors, and event organizers may periodically expect changes to reservation space availability due to ongoing construction. ABOUT THE CAPITOL COMPLEX ABOUT Florida's Capitol Complex includes the Capitol Tower, the House Office Building, the Senate Office Building, the Knott Building, the Florida Historic Capitol Museum, and other structures maintained by DMS.
