PORTAIL DES NATIONS The new UN Visitor Centre in Geneva Presentation for CTA Lausanne, 28 September 2021 1
WHO KNOWS WHAT THE UN DOES EXACTLY ? WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL GENEVA? WHY WHY SHOULD I CARE ABOUT THE UN ? WHAT DOES IT MEAN «WE THE PEOPLES» ?
TWO COMBINED AMBITIONS Value Geneva place in international governance The project called Portail des Nations (PDN) is an initiative of the Geneva philanthropist Ivan Pictet. Since 2008, a concept of a place dedicated to information and training in international Geneva has been developed . In the 2015, at the request of the Director General of UNOG in 2015, Ivan Pictet adapted his initiative to an extension and modernization of the UN Visitors' Service. Modernise the UN communication “We must be able to communicate better about what we do, in ways that everybody understands. We need a substantial reform of our communications strategy, upgrading our tools and platforms to reach people around the world.” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on 12 December 2016. ➢ By signing the Framework Agreement on June 2019 with the United Nations, Ivan Pictet, in its capacity as Lead Donor, undertakes to raise the funds and to assist the UN in the implementation of the Project. ➢ Since, the Foundation Portail des Nations, in close coordination with UN Geneva and NYC, develops the project of a UN Visitors' Centre in Geneva.
