It really annoys me when people refer to 2020 / 21 as a "year of lost learning." I think it is an insult to parents. You - mums, dads, grandparents, older siblings etc etc - have done an AMAZING job, and as well as getting your heads around "fronted adverbials" and ordering fractions, in the strangest and scariest of situations, you have - undoubtedly - taught your children skills that no school could ever hope to provide and develop... Over the year, I have noticed that not only have you carried out the above you have also helped your children learn to: - weigh out ingredients for a cake - build a bonfire - remove a splinter from a dog's paw - identify stick insect eggs - prune a tree - drill a hole in the wall with dad - play chess - help child ride a bike without stabilisers -build a bird box -make soup the list goes on.... These are life skills. They are essential. They help develop a child's character and their broader interests. This is not "lost learning", this is joyous learning. Teachers can't wait to welcome your child back into the classroom next week, but at the same time we applaud you. You've been brilliant Mrs Rogers and the Clanfield Team.
Mother’s Day Colouring Competition To celebrate all the amazing things our Mums do for us, Perry Bishop and Chambers are holding a colouring competition for Mothers’ Day. If you don’t have a Mum, you can do something special for the person who does look after you, whether that is your Dad, Grandma, Grandpa or guardian. To celebrate Mothers’ Day, we would like to fill the office windows of Perry Bishop in Faringdon with colourful pictures of your mother or the very special person who looks after you. We would like your picture to be no bigger than A4 and to be in portrait not landscape. You can use coloured crayons, felt tip pens or paint and entries must be received by Thursday 11th March, 5pm latest. We would like these to be handed in to our offices at 16 Market Place, Faringdon or they can be scanned and e-mailed to faringdon@perrybishop.co.uk if more convenient. There will be prizes for the best in each of the three age categories (Reception to Year 2, Years 3- 4 and Years 5-6) and we will donate £1 to the Faringdon Foodbank for each entry received. Please don’t forget to include your name, year group and school on the back of the picture. Good luck and we look forward to receiving your entries. With this in mind, we are contacting schools in hope that they can help us spread the word regarding this exciting opportunity. If you could share our casting flyer with the children, parents & staff at your school that would be really appreciated. We are looking for young budding bakers between 9 -15 years old. Filming would take place from July 2021, but our applications close on Sunday 28th March 2021.

Let’s get 2021 started!! Lucy Roberts & FOCS Committee. Ruby Class Well, where should I begin? What a couple of months it’s been…. Ruby class What can I say… You’ve been amazing! I would like to say a huge thank you for your cooperation and excitement for learning, each and every day! You have kept me going! Parents You have been amazing! I know it has seemed frustrating and difficult at times, but you have risen to the task and I would happily write you all reference for a TA post!!! We have had some challenges and wonderful moments over the last few months… To name but a few, Martha testing me with Buried Treasure / Parents raising their eyebrows at the suggestion of an additional activity! I’ve met Lyra’s animals; Adalin’s dressing up outfits (which I have my eye on for school!) Ezra has found his voice and I have loved seeing what he has learnt and how well he reads! Matilda (Toby’s sister) is ready for school after joining us for a lot of our lessons and having Toby to teach her! I have been lucky to meet (virtually) two Ruby class babies… Congratulations to Reuben’s family on the arrival of Ava and Jakes family on the arrival of Poppy! Kitty’s family have had a flood, but Kitty managed to use this experience and make this into a sentence in phonics “the house is very damp!” When we were learning about CVCC words and Elsie’s Dad come home early, much to Elsie's delight! Welcome back! Matilda has ridden her bike for 5k with her family and Flo walked a ridiculously long way on Sunday and found a burnt-out car! Freddie worked really hard and got a pair of big boy trousers (just like his Daddies). Joe has discovered the ability to turn on captions, so my speech becomes subtitles, and he has started calling me Emma Williams! And Alec… Well, he has been the most supportive friend to Freddie when he joined the School key worker group… but in addition to this he announced on Monday that the toilets are too small in Ruby class! Wow who knew so much could happen in a couple of months?! I can wait to have Ruby class back in school and in Toby’s words only 3 more sleeps before we are back in school… Feels a little like Christmas! Thanks again Ruby children and families you’ve been amazing!

Diamond Class What a fantastic World Book Day 2021! Even though we were not altogether at school, the children all made such an effort with their ‘World Book Day’ costumes. We had a Fantastic Mr and Mrs Fox, Princesses, Harry Potter and many more book characters! We interviewed two of the book characters and then wrote our own character profiles. Can you guess which book character lives in the jungle, has lots of teeth, is green and is known as Alan? The children enjoyed meeting the author of Look up and Clean up - Nathan Bryon and the Illustrator Dapo Adeola. They listened to the stories and completed a draw along activity of one of the characters (Luna the cat). I was very impressed with the children’s drawings! The afternoon was filled with creative activities, giving the children the opportunity to use their fantastic imaginations. We did some story writing, we created imaginary characters, we used art materials to create a story setting and most importantly we had a great deal of fun! Miss Thomas Sapphire Class Hello Sapphire, What a great few weeks we have had. We are all so excited to be back in school on Monday and all ready for 'A day in London'. This week has been world book day and we had lots of fun activities based around reading. It started with dressing up as and or talking about our favourite book characters, we then did a book scavenger hunt where we had list of things to look for such as a bear, a plane, a word we didn’t know the meaning of, a simile and much more. We listened to and were inspired by authors, wrote a book review of our favourite book, and had a fun packed afternoon of activities all related to reading and writing our own amazing books. Another brilliant week of enthusiastic learners, well done Sapphire. See you on Monday, I can’t wait! Miss Davies
Topaz Class We have had a great day for World Book Day- switching on all the cameras to see a screen full of book characters was the best way to start our morning, thank you! A huge well done to so many of you who had managed to put together costumes from existing items, lovely to see some homemade masks and props too. We started the morning with an online session with Katherine Rundell, exploring magical rooftops settings and the journeys her characters take through them. The artwork we then created has been outstanding and we are looking forward to seeing the writing it inspires in us all tomorrow. Earlier in the week we enjoyed two further online sessions, the first with Liz Pichon looking at her Tom Gates work and then with author Struan Murray. Dr Wallis and Mrs Tuach
