SINGLE SESSION & BRIEF SERVICE COUNSELLING What is a Single Session? After your intake is completed, you will be scheduled for a single session with one or two counsellors. We use a brief narrative/solution focused model. This means we focus on the strengths and needs of the family to develop solutions together. How long will the session be? The session will be about 1.5- 2 hours long. What can I expect? You will be asked to fill out a questionnaire that will help us understand how we can be helpful. Once the questionnaire is reviewed by the counsellor(s), the session will begin by exploring strengths, needs, what has been helpful in the past, explore barriers, and develop a plan. You will be offered a copy of your summary note at the end of the session and will be asked to fill out an anonymous survey to help us improve service moving forward. What happens after a Single Session? You and your counsellor will discuss next steps. Those options may include: Brief service (three sessions over 8 weeks to continue to develop solutions together, discuss coping skills, and build on strengths); Long-term services (each location may have a different wait list); and, Closing your file. What happens if I completed Brief Service but I want more services? Once brief service is over, you will discuss with your counsellor your needs and goals moving forward. You will either continue with your counsellor, transfer to another counsellor, or be placed on a waitlist. Centralized Intake: 1-833-696-5437 www.fireflynw.ca
