University of Saskatchewan COVID-19 Community Archive The University Library at USask has launched a COVID-19 Community Archive to document life in Saskatchewan during the global health crisis. The purpose of the archive is to provide valuable source material for researchers-faculty, students, journalists, historians and writers-studying how the COVID-19 pandemic has transformed the university and the province at large. As a community-driven initiative, the digital archive will include submissions from residents that chronicle individual or collective experiences. This includes photographs, social media posts, videos, creative projects, email, blog entries, journals, and personal reflections. You can submit your content to the archive and view recent submissions at covid19archive.usask.ca. What is Dream Broker all about? . . . The Dream Broker connects inner- city youth and their families with a sport, recreational or cultural activity. She can support participation in various sport, culture or recreation activities by helping with registration costs, transportation, equipment or just by being a cheerleader on the sidelines when a family member is unable to attend. As COVID-19 social distancing protocols become stricter the Dream Broker program has been limited to delivering subscription kits to Connaught & St. Mary’s families on a weekly basis.
COVID-Update: Starting March 12th there was a lot of change in a small amount of time. First the schools cut all extra-curricular activities then the following week the schools were completely shut down. Since then the Dream Broker program has been limited to weekly deliveries of kits for families that include mental health resources, “learn to” activities for sport, culture & recreation activities as well as a healthy snack. Although this is the new normal, it has been nice to switch gears for the past week and reflect. Knowing that I will be able to see & work with everyone again is what keeps me going everyday. Regarding the weekly kits: I am now asking community members and members of Rivers West District for support. As of right now I deliver to 10 families every week and have delivered 100 kits! I am hoping to expand to 15 families but cannot do so without help from Rivers West District members. Every kit includes: • Healthy Snacks (muffins, granola bars, fruit, etc) • Activities (learn-to sheets, mental health activities, family games, art kits, health or fitness challenges, etc) • Equipment (skipping ropes, soccer balls, baseballs, basketballs, tote bags, etc.) There is no limit to what a kit can include! If you have something in mind that would be helpful for families affected please share as it would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your support! Antje District Dream Broker
