Reshmi began her broadcasting career in radio at Mountain FM in Squamish, B.C. She continued as a radio reporter with News1130 in Vancouver, winning an Edward R. Murrow Award for ‘spot news coverage’ of an oil pipeline rupture in Burnaby, B.C. She was a television reporter for CTV before happily settling into CBC’s headquarters back home in Toronto.
A LASTING IMPACT The Gift of Good Health On April 28, 2018, over 500 guests came together in a South Asian-themed ‘celebration of spring’ to help transform cardiac care at Markham Stouffville Hospital (MSH). Presented by RBC, Festival of Colours was an evening full of vibrant costume, traditional Indian cuisine – including a live Jalebi dessert station, energetic dance, musical performances, and tremendous generosity. MSH’s Dr. Ajai Pasricha helped kick off the fundraising with a live equipment appeal that raised over $150,000 in support of the purchase of a new echocardiography system complete with stress echo and transesophageal echo capabilities. With the support of the Gulshan & Pyarali G. Nanji Family Foundation as Lead Donor, the second biennial Festival of Colours has made a lasting impact on the lives of MSH patients. Thanks to generous community support, more patients can access the latest and greatest in today’s medical technology and receive the best possible care – close to home. As part of our generous community, you are the reason that cardiac care is being transformed for everyone who relies on MSH for heart health. THANK YOU!
THOUSANDS YOUR OF REASONS SPONSORSHIP TO A PLAYS SPONSOR CRUCIALTHE ROLE Mental Health Festival of Colours Funds raised from Festival of Colours 2020 will support the expansion and enhancement of our outpatient mental health programs to help reduce wait times, ensure more youth can access more timely care, and improve the quality of life for our community’s children, adolescents and families. Due to a combination of socio-economic factors in York Region – one of Canada’s most diverse and fastest growing regions – our community is at increased risk for anxiety, depression, addictions and suicide. Demand for mental health programs continues to rise at MSH, where last year 7,100 children and adolescents received treatment from MSH’s Child and Adolescent Outpatient Mental Health Services. MSH is addressing the mental health crisis in York Region through its dedication to delivering evidence-based therapy and innovative services and by offering a counter narrative to stigma through educational events and community-based initiatives and care. For teens there’s an Adolescent Depression Group for youth struggling with depression or bipolar disorder. The Adolescent Treatment and Learning Alternate Service (ATLAS) program is for teens aged 12-18 who have significant difficulty attending or succeeding at school due to anxiety and/or depression. Worry Busters is a group therapy program for children aged 9-12 struggling with anxiety. And for youth aged 18-26 there is a Transitional Age Youth (TAY) program that couples coping strategies with life skills to address the unique needs of this group transitioning between adolescence and adulthood. These programs are currently limited to six-to-eight patients per session and have an average wait time of five months. Your support will help ensure that everyone, especially the youth in our increasingly diverse community who face unique obstacles on the path to mental health wellness can find the opportunity for a better future at MSH.
