Winshill Neighbourhood Resource Centre (WNRC) Charity No. 1158268 Centre Snack Attack activities April 2019‐ March 2020 April 8th ‐11th 2019 Easter Bunnies in and around Winshill (In Partnership with Wishes 4 Winshill) Some of our Centre Volunteers dressed up last year and gave Easter eggs out in the street outside some of the local Schools, as this went so well, we thought we would expand on the idea. 3 of our volunteers dressed up as Easter Bunnies and asked for donations of Eggs, we were inundated with eggs to give away, with over 2000 small eggs, we went out and about as the Easter Bunnies. The bunnies went to the local schools, the Newstart charity shop, the Burton Market, the local Lunch Clubs and events that were on, in and around Winshill giving away eggs, it was great to see the children’s faces and the parents were also happy to receive an egg. We also had lots of larger eggs donated and we gave them out at our Youth Club and the Easter Lunch. The bunnies were out and about for 2 weeks and we felt the community really embraced the Easter bunnies and we even had requests to go to different groups and events next year if possible.
Easter Eggs Community Easter Lunch (In partnership With Wishes 4 Winshill) 11 Children / 30 Adults We had a lovely Lamb roast Dinner for Easter with all the trimmings, this was provided for people of all ages, the conversation flowed nicely between the ages and of cause the Easter Bunnies arrived and gave out some of the larger eggs that had been donated, some of our older members have no family so got very emotional when being given an Easter egg as it’s not something they would normally receive. April 16th Snack Attack‐
3‐5pm & food Bags Magical Mayhem 35 Children/ 21 Adults ‘Our Snack Attack Club’ started about 2 years ago, providing meals for those families in our community with a child under 7yrs, all children under 7yrs normally receive a free school meal in term time and we realised there was a need in the school holidays to help provide food for not only those under 7yrs but the whole family, we also realised not all family have access to transport to take the children out or even have the finances to do that, so we set up the Snack Attack Holiday club, where we provide entertainment and a meal for families to enjoy during the holidays. Magical Mayhem is always popular, so he does an hour Magic show and we provide snack bags with a treat and a picnic lunch with fresh fruit, sandwich, cake, crisps and a drink for everyone.
Attack 3‐5pm & Food Bags Phat Magic 38 Children/21 Adults The children really enjoy Phat Magic as he does abit of everything and they all get a balloon model at the end of the show, Eddie (Phat Magic) is very good with those families who have children with additional needs and tailors his show accordingly. We did a food bag again as this is easier when there are a lot of children.
May 31st Breakfast Club 10‐12pm & Crafts 20 Children/8 Adults We provide a full cooked breakfast consisting of Bacon, Sausage, egg (scrambled, fried, boiled, poached.) beans, tomatoes, toast, cereal, fruit and a drink, everyone is welcome and can have a combination of any of the foods. We also provide an activity for the children.

The coaches were 71 seaters and the trip was completely free to any family who had at least 1 child under 5yrs There were lots of activities available at Sudbury Hall that were provided by Family Action with free entry to the Museum and the main hall. Winshill Neighbourhood Resource centre and Wishes 4 Winshill were asked if we could provide the picnic for the families, we provided 200 picnic bags for those on the 2 coaches and for those families who made their own way there. It was a very successful trip which all the families thoroughly enjoyed.

6th August ‐Pet Parties 3‐5pm & Buffet 40 Children/31 Adults Pet Parties is an event that both the children and Parents really enjoy, it gives the children a chance to stroke and see animals that they wouldn’t normally come across in everyday life. We have children who are frightened of animals of any sort and it gives the parents chance to gently introduce them to spiders, snakes and tortoises, that not a lot of children get to see anymore. There is so many children who would like to come to this event, but the centre is just no big enough to take more than 40 children and parents, so this is something we will look at next year to see if we can have 2 sessions in the one day. We served a buffet lunch for everyone afterwards, consisting of sandwiches, chicken nuggets, samosas, spring rolls, sausage rolls, cheese and onion rolls, pickles, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, cakes and fresh fruit

This was probably the wettest day of the whole Holidays, but the parents and children embraced the fact that they were not in Winshill, some families had already booked tickets for Gulliver’s Kingdom and the heights of Abraham, so were determined to have a good time despite the weather.
16th August ‐ Breakfast Club & Crafts 31 Adult/20 children Breakfast club again was very popular.
August 20th‐Build A Bear 2‐5pm (In Partnership with Wishes 4 Winshill) 50 Children/ 25 adults (100 more on the park) We had been asked if we could do this activity, we looked at the cost of the bears and felt that we could subsidise them if we did this as a joint event with Wishes 4 Winshill, as we need to keep numbers at around 40 we did this as a ticket only event at a cost of £3 per child and we would pay the remaining £7 per child, but we said there would be a BBQ/ picnic afterwards so everyone would be able to access the food. This was extremely popular, and we took the numbers up to 50 to try and accommodate all those who wanted to come. This was a real family event with Mum’s, Dad’s, older brother’s and Sister’s all getting involved. Food: Burger’s Hot dogs, Pork Stuffing cobs, lots of fruit, crisps, cakes and drinks. We had lots of other families on the Park to join in the activities and enjoy the food.
August 23rd – Breakfast Club & Crafts 10‐12 26 Children/16 Adults We decided to change it this week after everyone has so enjoyed the full breakfast, we thought we would go for a continental breakfast, with lots of Yoghurt and fruit, the families didn’t seem to keen when they first arrived, but once they had tried some of the croissants, muesli and Yogurts it then went down well.

Trent & Dove helped with some Gazebos and their Volunteers manned the BBQ for us. This was a very hot day and the gazebos were great, as people came and sat under them, we had lots of new faces to this event and it was so busy all day long, we tried to keep a count, but the park was so full we lost count in the end we served over 500 Burgers, hot dogs and filled rolls and all the other food went too, we got through 12 bottles of squash and Kate who was face painting didn’t stop for 4 and half hours.
August 30th ‐ Breakfast Club & Crafts 32 Children/20 Adults We went back to a full breakfast at this our last breakfast club of the 6 weeks holidays, we had a great respnse as today we served 47 full breakfasts and the others had either cereal or something on Toast, it is good to see the families sitting down and enjoying breakfast together and the children all enjoying the crafts with each other and the parents getting involved. October Half Term (In partnership with Wishes 4 Winshill) October 29th – Pumpkin Carving 57 Children/19 Adults We started off with 305 pumpkins, then soon realised this was not going to be enough, so we went to get 30 more, which was a good job as we had 57 enthusiastic Pumpkin carvers. We provided hot dogs and a small buffet and also some pulled pork cobs which went down very well. October 30th – Lunch Club

The volunteers also did a surprise performance which they had been practicing for 6weeks, they wanted to show that we should all try to love ourselves and that we as a charity are there if anyone needs us, no one needs to feel alone. The volunteers all dressed as Nuns to show that everyone is the same on the inside no matter how we look or how confident we seem, we all hurt the same and that no one is perfect, even our volunteers have problems and upsets, they support each other and are here to support their community in which ever way they can. They sang 2 songs from Sister act and the Greatest love of all and the ‘this is me’ from the greatest showman and the young people joined them and they sang the song together which was vey emotional, for our volunteers and the parents.
