But yet again our course has bounced back and is playing quite well apart from the holes all over the greens, but this is something that has to be done. The form is now up for Captains away day, 28th July £40 all in. I would like to thank Bob for sorting that out, so please put your names down. It would be great to see you All there. Captains Day which was arranged for June 17th will now be on June 24th as there is a wedding booked for the 17th. 2/ Secretary Report – Jeff Vanderman Membership – One new member – John Cochrane inducted this evening, one new member, Steve Lowe whose application was received today.
Competitions - Well done to Pete Rogers’s team who closed out the Winter Yellow Peril as winners on 330 points, Brian Lewis’s team ran in second with 320 points and Matt team with 311. Well done all and no doubt we can feature this comp again next winter. Weekly running competitions numbers have picked up with the weather but they are coming to an end. Handicap qualifiers will commence from the 19th April. The Easter Scramble has attracted 50 entrants to date and we are hoping for more, and for fine weather! The Knockout entry forms are posted and the comps will be drawn for play to start from May. The Away Day has been well advertised and interest is growing. The Bridport Bowl – The over 50’s men’s team travelled to Bridport on the 1st April and enjoyed glorious weather on this clifftop course and good hospitality. Unfortunately we lost 3 matches to 2 in this first round meaning an early exit from the Competition. In the Daily Mail Men’s Foursomes, we have been drawn at home to New Forest – good luck to Gary and Ian. The juniors had a fine victory over Paultons Park in the Green jackets and now face North Hants away in the 2nd Round. General Course - Preferred Lies will continue until Qualifiers start if the weather remains consistent. My Time – No issues. There is no sign of proposed works on drainage problem between the 10th and 12th holes. 3/ Treasurer Report – Bob Allinson Most of the major expense items have been settled with only PSI maintenance due at the end of March. My Away day was held on Tuesday 28th March at Ampfield Golf course and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day. The overall competition was won by Krystina Cotterell and the team game by Krystina Cotterell, Carol Niven and Miriam Eve. Nearest the pin on 6th was Gloria Gordon and on the 13th was Hilary Hanmore, and for the most bunkers was Sue Hallett. We held the Centenary Foursomes on Thursday 30th March, Hilary Bell and Sue Hallett will be our representatives at the final in October. We will be hosting our first friendly match of the season on Monday 3rd April, at home against Burley. The Wednesday monthly matches for the ladies on the 9 hole are continuing and we have received one new membership application from this so far with a further two expected shortly. We have been approached by the Hampshire Junior Girls Academy to offer helpers to meet and greet the young girls when they come to Dibden during April and May on a programme designed to introduce girls into playing golf.
5/ Seniors Captain Report – Keith Cartwright Very little to report. We had our first interclub match on the 30 th and managed to lose 4-2, but had a very enjoyable day and the weather was brilliant. The interclub match season has now started in earnest and we have matches nearly every week from now until October. We are getting about 18 volunteers to play in each match at present which is excellent. I do not intend to pick our best players, I will try to involve as many members as I can throughout the season. Our next match is away to Burley on the 6 th April, hopefully we will get a better result. We are getting about 40 members playing each Monday morning which again is excellent. 6/ Junior Organiser Report – Ryan Hussey Holes beginners / improvers This Section has continued to play fortnightly with 5/6 players each week. Steve has been joining the later part of John Slades’ Saturday Group lesson, speaking to the parents to encourage new members for our junior section with several Mytime active junior members showing an interest. Three of our improvers Callum Goodwin, Harrison Gransden-Smith and Hannah Mogg are now progressing onto the 18 Hole course and successfully completed the first 6 Holes on Saturday under the supervision of Steve who is hoping by the end of the summer to progress them into the intermediate group. Also congratulations to Hannah Mogg for coming second out of players in the first round of the Girls 10 + age section of the Ezgo Tour held over 9 holes at Walhampton on the 19th of March Finally a special Thankyou to Peter Summers and Jeff Gunson for their continued help in supporting Steve Price with this section of our Club . Along with an extra special thank you to Steve Price for his great work in attracting new juniors to our club. Intermediates / Representatives March 12th saw Benji Rideout, Tommy Brammer and Zac Bowman represent our Junior section in the 1st round of the prestige Green Jacket Stapleford Competition in a Home fixture against Paultons Juniors. Paultons fielded a strong trio with Handicaps of 12, 12 and 6. Although the conditions were tough and the opposition very experienced all three of our top Seeded players played outstanding and scored 107 points. With Paultons scoring 84 we finished the day with a satisfying win by 23 Points. The next round has been drawn and we will be travelling to Fleet to play North Hants Juniors. This will take place on the 28th of May. March 19th also saw Zac and Tommy compete in the 1st round or the Junior Handicap section of Hampshire Ezgo tour staged at Walhampton. With tough opposition both boys played extremely well with Tommy scoring a nett 34 to finish 4th and Zac scoring an amazing nett 27 (7 under Par) to finish 1st and gain maximum points on the day. Other news - Over April and May the Intermediates and Representatives will compete in the in- house Junior Bramshott Hill Spring Cup. The format will be Stapleford rules over 11 holes, playing off the yellow Tee. Over the 2 Months each player will play at least 4 rounds with the best 4 round scores being totalled up to produce a winner.
Finally - It's great to see on the board that we have 7 juniors already signed up for the Jess Flowers Easter Scramble. 7/ Competitions Report – Jeff Vanderman As Secretary Report 8/ My Time Liaison and Focus Group Issues to be raised - 2nd Tee area particularly on the White tee positions. Keith Cartwright: Qualifying competitions – Keith asked for confirmation as to how many Qualifying competitions were required before entering any Senior Section major competition. Keith referred to the Competition rules stating that 6 qualifiers were required. However the Competition Committee confirmed this had been changed to 3 qualifiers. Keith stated he would take this information to the Senior section committee. Handicaps – Discussion re handicaps above the competition level of 28. Keith was advised by the Competition committee that the membership had been consulted on those at 28 handicap. They were asked if they would prefer to play at a non-competition level, i.e. above 28. All had declined. Jeff Vanderman: New competition – A plan and outline of a new competition for a Match Play league was shown to the committee. This would be advertised and run as a pilot to establish what interest in it could be ascertained. The plan is to advertise it during May with a playing window of June-July- and August. Initial positive feedback had been received from the Senior section. See addendum Discussion re My Time establishing an affiliated Golf Club. – Jeff advised that there had been various indications from Paul Smith at the Pro shop that My Time is planning to form a Golf Club affiliated to England Golf. BHGC members has also apparently had also received information from Roger Tomey that this may be the case. The Committee discussed the matter with the view of threat to the Club. Jeff advised the Committee that he had spoken with the Hampshire Golf secretary on the matter. The information received was that “while there are in excess of 600 My Time season ticket holders, (with 40% of them being BHGC members) Hampshire Golf and England Golf would not allow any affiliation of a new club at the Dibden site and would in fact side with BHGC in discussions related to defending the issue against any such proposal by My Time”.
The Committee agreed to approach Roger Tomey and ask for a meeting to discuss this subject. Rob Barrington would generate the invitation. Bob Allinson: Bob asked for confirmation that the Annual Subscription is set at £52.00 and the Club will waiver the joining fee for My Time Season ticket holders during April, May and June. The Committee agreed. Website Progress – Bob advised the Committee of the new Website and showed visuals of progress to date.
