PRESIDENT’S REPORT Proposed Developments By Judy Pope The judging is now complete for the Western Sydney Awards for Business Excellence (WSABE). I helped judge one of the categories and the diversity and talents of the entrants was inspiring. The finalist’s lunch was held at Peppers Stadium in Penrith. The Penrith Panthers being one of the sponsors were at the pre lunch bowls on the oval and they were quite impressive as well. The Gala Awards Ceremony will be held at the Waterview, Homebush Bay on Friday the 14th August. We had our own Chamber meeting last night as well and it was held at the Dural Country Club. Guests Freddy and Shady Mikhael from JC Constructions were invited along to let members know about the new Cascades development on Old Northern Rd just before the Dural Post Office. Shady Mickhael gave members a good overview of what is planned for the site and was happy to answer questions afterwards. In a nutshell it won’t be a huge development but definitely very tasteful and complementary to the area. There will be 17 luxury apartments, top end restaurants, medical centre, child care centre and coffee lounge all with a water feature running through and a lake at one end. The other matter discussed last night was the proposed change of use for 268-278 New Line Rd, Dural to incorporate retail shops and a supermarket. This land falls right in the middle of existing bulky goods and commercial zoned premises. The Chamber submitted a response to Hornsby Council on behalf of its members citing that it would support further needed commercial and bulky goods development but did not support another supermarket and retail shops. The reasons being the current traffic chaos needs to be rectified first. Also the Cascades development, pending South Dural rezoning, rezoning already gone through on land adjacent Stonelea Court all have significant retail planned.
