Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens
is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and is the historic home
of the founder of the city of San Clemente. Our mission is to
provide programs for all ages in arts, music, history, horticulture,
and literature as a premier Southern California cultural center.
Casa Romantica’s exceptional artistic experiences and idyllic
oceanfront setting enrich the lives of more than 40,000
residents and visitors annually. Our cultural programs are
complemented by numerous free and low-cost arts education
opportunities for children throughout the year, with summer
academies in music and dance as well as children’s concerts,
plays, workshops, exhibition and performance events, and
movement classes that cultivate confidence and creative
thinking from infancy to adulthood.

Four-time GRAMMY-nominated pianist/composer
Director of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra
2017 Monterey Jazz Festival Artist in Residence
Clayton formally began his musical journey at the prestigious Los Angeles County High School
for the Arts and continued at USC’s Thornton School of Music after a year of intensive study
with NEA Jazz Master Kenny Barron at The Manhattan School of Music. Clayton won second
place in the 2006 Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Piano Competition.
In 2018, Clayton received an ASCAP Vanguard Award, in recognition of “the impact of new and
developing musical genres, which help shape the future of music.” 2020 marks his first year as
director of the Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Jazz Orchestra.

The Lao Tizer Band features a lineup of world-class musicians with a high-octane
live show! Coming off the release of their Billboard Jazz Top 10 CD/DVD combo, “Songs
From The Swinghouse,” the quartet will be performing on the Casa Jazz Club stage
featuring GRAMMY Award-winning saxophonist Eric Marienthal, member of the famed
Chick Corea Elektric Band, who has played among the likes of Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder,
Patti Labelle, and Olivia Newton-John.
