TEMPORARY RECRUITMENT PUBLIC SERVICE ASSISTANT II SENIOR CENTER GUEST ASSISTANT BILINGUAL ENGLISH and MANDARIN, SPANISH, FARSI, or HINDI REQUIRED 20 hours per week, $15.25 per hour Qualified candidates will be promptly referred to the department for considera on. POSITION: The Senior Center Guest Assistant posi on will work under the supervision and direc on of the Senior Center Program Coordinator within the Human Services Department. This support staff posi on will work in the Senior Center office, providing customer service, administra ve support and offer transla on to seniors whose first language is not English. This temporary assignment is scheduled to work up to 20 hours per week, with the dura on dependent on funding. Typical schedule will be 4 hours daily Monday through Friday. However, staff may be requested to work an 8 hour shi of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., depending on program needs and staffing. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Provide excellent customer service to seniors u lizing the Senior Center. This includes customer needs assessment, mee ng quality standards for services, and evalua on of customer sa sfac on. Screen visitors and calls, and refer inquiries as appropriate. Translate messages simultaneously or consecu vely into Mandarin, Spanish, Farsi, or Hindi, orally or wri en, maintaining message content, context, and style as much as possible. Proofread, edit, and revise translated materials. Assist Program Coordinator as needed to execute events, including room set‐up and furniture moving. Assist with supervision, recruitment, scheduling, and training of office volunteers. Check transla ons of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout transla on revisions. Read wri en materials and rewrite material into Mandarin, Spanish, Farsi, or Hindi. Promote programs by wri ng ar cles, taking videos and crea ng social media posts. Keep binders and senior resources organized and updated. Other du es as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate will have any combina on of educa on and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abili es necessary for sa sfactory job performance. A typical way to acquire the appropriate background will include at least one year of customer service experience, as well as one year of Mandarin, Spanish, Farsi, or Hindi transla on experience. Wri en and verbal fluency in English and Mandarin or Spanish, Farsi, or Hindi required. Candidate must be able to communicate clearly with persons with difficul es hearing. The following are highly desirables: Familiarity with community services programs for seniors. Understanding of the aging process and a love of working with seniors. Fluency in Mandarin, Spanish or Hindi. Awareness and apprecia on of cultural differences. Working knowledge of Microso Office Suite. CPR and AED ability and cer fica on required within 6 months of hire; training will be provided as needed. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The hourly rate for this posi on is $15.25 per hour. This posi on does not receive benefits.
