caring counts SUMMER 2021 THE ELDERSPAN NEWSLETTER CELEBRATING OVER 25 YEARS OF QUALITY, CARING SERVICE! Sweet summertime has finally arrived, and with it comes warm weather pastimes like enjoying lunch on the patio, outings to cherished local spots, and fun pontoon boat rides. Our ElderSpan-managed residences continue to offer activities that cultivate each senior’s mind, body and overall well-being, while also making sure that residents stay connected to their local community. Special thanks to our amazing staff who make that happen! All of our staff members are dedicated individuals who provide the highest quality of care to our residents. If you know someone 16 or older who has a heart for seniors who you would trust to care for your loved one, please encourage them to go to elderspan.com/join-our-team and see the various positions available across all of our ElderSpan locations. No experience is necessary and we provide paid training and can also pay tuition costs to become a CNA!
Here’s to the Dads To celebrate Father’s Day, the men at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster were treated to a special breakfast on the patio. ElderSpan maintenance staff member David Blume joined in for the meal, talking hunting and sports with the guys. He also surprised them with delicious treats from Quality Bakery in Dodgeville! It’s always enjoyable when the men can gather and have bonding time together. Sip & Savor Residents at CrestRidge Senior Living in Dodgeville attended the event Sip & Savor in July, sponsored by Upland Hills Health Hospital. They had a wonderful evening together, sampling local food and drink, listening to live music, and chatting with community members. The presence of our residents at public events serves as a reminder that the senior population still plays a big part in building a strong community! Gorgeous Gardens Ladies in assisted living and memory care at All Saints Neighborhood in Madison visited Olbrich Botanical Gardens multiple times throughout June. The beautiful greenery and sun-soaked pathways were a nice change of pace for the gals. A couple residents even noted that they wish they could go on a weekly basis, as they felt it was therapeutic!

An afternoon at Potosi Brewing Company was also in the books for them, where they had a delicious lunch together. Tenants at Pine Glen look forward to the musical happy hours they have each month where they gather together to socialize and relax. Each tenant also had the opportunity to share their treasures or talents with their neighbors, and in July, 98-year-old Leona Shinker displayed her wonderful artwork with everyone. From jewelry and painted china to gourds and holiday items, it was quite an impressive collection of creations! Thanks for sharing your talents, Leona!
Enjoying A Tour Pines Senior Living in Prairie du Sac took a number of residents to tour the Museum of Badger Army Ammunition in July. Museum Director Verlyn Mueller led the tour and shared the history of this large WWII munitions factory. The seniors were fascinated with the information and artifacts. Resident Russell Fenske, pictured with the old uniforms, worked at the plant for 33 years, so it was an extra special outing for him! Pen Pals Finally Meet! During COVID, some of the ladies at Meadow Ridge Senior Living in Baraboo became pen pals with girls in the American Heritage Girls Troop WI2517. Restrictions have been loosening, so they were finally able to meet toward the end of May. They spent time together outside getting to know the person they’ve been writing to for the past year or so. Special thanks to the girls for bringing such joy with their letters and their visit! Make Music Day Make Music Day is celebrated around the world on June 21st. Meadows Assisted Living & Memory Care in Spring Green participated this year, hosting a community concert by the Trippers Lite Band on the back patio. Thanks to the community members who were able to join us for the performance and thanks to Make Music Platteville and their staff for helping us get involved! We’re grateful that we have the opportunity to socialize outside and socially distance. A Fun Visit A group of children from Great Beginnings Learning Center had a ball playing in the yard of Park Place Senior Living in Platteville in June. Residents blew bubbles for the kiddos and loved watching them play games and run around in the beautiful weather. Thanks to the daycare staff and children for sharing their time!
