DIRECTOR’S NOTE: I grew up watching ‘THE CAROLE BURNETT SHOW’, ‘THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW’ and ‘HERE’S LUCY’ when they were first-run. I have long enjoyed a good situational comedy and their blend of humor and eccentric characters and events. I later cut my teeth on ‘MONTY PYTHON’S FLYING CIRCUS’ and ‘FAWLTY TOWERS’ on public television before I fell in love with many a good mystery. Comedy has its own unique way of disarming our emotions, unmasking our motivations and revealing often deeper perspectives within its storyline or plot. Characters might share a truly interesting and revealing piece of information while ironically facing an extreme obstacle at the same time. Comedy at its best helps us to smile in the face of challenges, laugh at our own shortcomings, endure an unexpected trial, sometimes while pondering a deeper thought at the same interval. True comedy helps us to both laugh while provoking us to think. Oscar Wilde’s classic play is one such example which can achieve both. It is with honor to this well-made play that we offer this as Mr. Wilde penned it, in ‘the present’ or in our current time. Some of its messaging is as true today as it was in the culture he wrote it in and chose to parody. We hope you enjoy this timeless tale of mistaken identity and family discovery. Here’s hoping your find your true ‘Earnest’, too! SPECIAL THANKS: Dr. Joan Griffing Dramatic Publishing Co. Star Lumber Robyn Mabe Theatre Kansas Lowes’ Alyssa Whalen TSI, Inc.
