LIBRARY EVENTS FROM THE DIRECTOR Readers are Leaders! READERS ARE LEADERS Summer Reading Program Read books, attend programs, share your progress, and win prizes during the Summer Reading program, June 1 through August 31. What traits are needed to be a good leader? How can you be a leader in your community, classroom, home, or on the playground? What are some of our community leaders’ favorite reads? Join your community in reading books, attending programs, and learning what it means to be a leader. Summer Reading is for everyone! No matter how young—or young at heart—you are, the Summer Reading program is for you! Tracking the number of books or minutes you read, writing reviews, and attending programs all count as progress toward summer success. SYNC AUDIOBOOKS Free Summer Audiobook Program for Teens Through August 4, download two thematically paired audiobooks a week—pairs of high interest titles based on weekly themes. Selections include dramas, autobiographies, fantasies, thrillers, romances, and much more. Titles are accessible in Sora, the student reading app from OverDrive. Each SYNC audiobook will be available to borrow into your SYNC library for a period of 7 days, but once loaded into your app, they are yours to keep indefinitely. SOCIAL SERVICES ASSISTANCE AT THE LIBRARY The JCLS Social Worker is available to help with navigating and contacting social services in Jackson County, including housing assistance, SNAP and other benefits, health referrals, veterans assistance, and much more. Drop-in or schedule an appointment at (541) 774-6759 Medford Library: Mondays-Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00-4:00 PM Ashland Library: Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 PM OUTREACH TO CHILD CARE The JCLS Outreach to Child Care program has openings for child care sites to receive monthly loans of book bags. This is a free early literacy program for providers who care for four or more children ages zero to six. When COVID-19 safety measures allow, 15-to-30-minute storytimes will also be offered. All Outreach to Child Care resources and services are available in English and/or Spanish. Each book bag contains a unique mix of 40 age-appropriate titles. Along with the book bags, sites may request supplemental materials such as theme bags of 10 books on selected topics, boxes of 10 board books for babies, and children’s music CDs. Materials are sent to your closest branch library for pick up. If delivery to your site is needed, it can be arranged.
