A DAY IN We carry over 1 million passengers per day, which means we need quite a few buses to help people move around! As a result of this THE LIFE we have 9 garages (10 including Coventry) across the West Midlands and over 5,500 staff making sure operations and everything else bus related run smoothly. Have you ever wondered how the day starts for our buses? At 3am most people are safely tucked up in bed, but not our buses! At this time our first vehicle departs the garage and the rest of our buses follow. Our busiest period is between 5am - 7am, as most of our fleet leaves the garage to start the day and cover the morning rush hour. Once the morning peak is over the day shift jumps into action. Buses that were needed to cover the peak period return to garage. Some vehicles may need small jobs completing - such as repairs or a deep clean - before they are required to serve during the afternoon rush, so we use this time to get this work carried out whilst the majority of our engineering and cleaning teams are on site. To ensure the afternoon peak runs smoothly, buses are allocated to routes and the drivers report for their duties. After this is over, we have our very own Getting the buses back into the garage is one of the rush when a large proportion of our fleet returns to trickiest jobs, as one of our night engineers has to the garage. record the position of every vehicle in the garage to be able to work out when the buses will leave in When drivers return the buses back to the garage, the morning (which isn’t as easy as you may think!) they are re-fuelled, washed and then parked up for At this point, our staff bus begins running the night. Any defects that have been reported are throughout the night to take home our late night then passed over to the engineers, so work can be shift workers and collect those starting early in the carried out by the night staff. morning ready to begin another day!
