In connection with manger and boire (verbs) you have to use the partitive article: “some” – du / de la/ des /de l’ – Je mange du pain / Je n’aime pas manger du pain For opinion phrases - J’aime/J’adore/Je déteste/Je n’aime pas (that are not followed by manger or boire) you just use the definite article: le / la / les / l’ – J’aime le pain / Je n’aime pas le poisson If it is a negative it is followed by ‘de’: Je ne mange jamais de pain / Je ne bois pas de coca
