Developed to assist operators in delivering exceptional guest experiences, all businesses assessed in the program receive a detailed report with valuable consumer insights that can be used to drive improved business performance. Operators identified as Best of Queensland Experiences are prioritised across TEQ’s marketing activity, including Queensland.com. To be assessed in the 2021 program, make sure you have a live and up-to-date listing on the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) before 1 December 2020. TEQ, in partnership with Queensland's Regional Tourism Organisations, is currently offering
ATDW membership with no annual fee, providing a saving of $150 per year. This offer is available to all Queensland tourism operators. TEQ understands many businesses have been impacted by COVID-19 and this will be taken into account with further program updates to be distributed in the coming weeks. UPDATE ATDW NOW
COVID-19 latest Easing of restrictions Tourism and events businesses can now increase capacity following the easing of restrictions effective 4:00pm Tuesday 17 November. All businesses (including tours) can now accommodate one person per two square metres, rather than the previous one per four square metres. Event venues can also operate at increased capacity - indoor seated, ticketed venues, and open-air stadiums can operate at 100 per cent capacity; outdoor events for up to 1,500 people can operate under a checklist without submitting for Queensland Health approval. Outdoor dancing is now also allowed (for example, at an outdoor music festival). The Movement and Gathering Direction and Restrictions on Business, Activities and Undertakings Direction have both been updated to reflect the changes. COVID-19 hotspots Adelaide - including 20 Local Government Areas - is now a declared hotspot. People who arrived in Queensland from any of these areas from Monday 9 November 2020 onwards must immediately be tested and self-isolate until 14 days from when they were last in the hotspot. For travellers who were in South Australia before 11:59 AEST 8 November there is a class exemption that exempts them from quarantining. People who arrive after 11:59pm AEST Monday 16 November 2020 will not be allowed entry into Queensland (unless they are an exempt person; or a Queensland resident, in which case they need to enter mandatory hotel quarantine at their own expense). See the details and links to the official information here.

Vale Sid Melksham The Fraser Coast community is mourning the death of Sid Melksham, a pioneer of the Fraser Island tourism industry, who passed away aged 84. From the humble beginnings in 1959 when Sid bought an eight-seater boat that was raised from the depths of the Mary River to run his first passenger service, to when he retired in 2002, Sid Melksham was a tourism pioneer on K’gari-Fraser Island. Sid went
on to build Eurong Beach Resort situated on the island’s eastern side, found Fraser Island Ferries, at its peak operating five barges in four locations providing daily services, establish Fraser Venture Tours with 40 tour coaches operating one and two-day tours to Fraser Island, with guests staying at Eurong Beach Resort, and for a time he also ran two large catamarans for whale watching in Hervey Bay. Sid always had a dream which he made a reality – making Fraser Island an affordable and accessible place so everyone could enjoy its beauty. We extend our condolences to Sid's family.
