View past editions of Eye on Q 3 June 2021 Gold Coast Holiday Dollars launched The fourth phase of Queensland's Holiday Dollars program is going live with travel vouchers to explore the Gold Coast up for grabs next week. Another 30,000 travel vouchers for Queenslanders, this time to stay and explore the Gold Coast, are on offer and can be used for a range of experiences from the region's whale watching tours and theme parks to its accommodation offerings and everything in between. The Gold Coast campaign is designed to support local tourism operators and drive visitation during a key shoulder period. Gold Coast operators have until 21 July to register to participate in the Holiday Dollars campaign. As the Gold Coast Holiday Dollars campaign begins, the Cairns & Great Barrier Reef and Whitsundays campaigns are continuing with their respective booking and redemption phases finishing at the end of June, while the Brisbane campaign travel period continues until 15 August.
FIND OUT MORE Queensland on show As we reach mid-year, TEQ continues to work with industry to showcase the many visitor experiences across the state to potential travellers and trade partners. This week and into the next, this will occur through a few high-profile events. TEQ is currently hosting a Queensland stand at the biggest caravanning event in Queensland - the Let's Go Queensland Caravan and Camping Show - from 2 to 7 June in Brisbane. TEQ will join more than 220 other exhibitors, including six regional tourism organisations, at the popular event which is expected to see more than 40,000 people through its doors. With drive tourism increasing as a popular method of domestic travel, the stand will provide an opportunity to engage with potential travellers and raise awareness about the diversity of drive tourism experiences Queensland has to offer. On the trade front, Australia's largest tourism trade event, the Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE), will kick off on Sunday with ATE Live from 6 to 9 June, immediately followed by ATE Online, running from 10 to 17 June. The program will bring together thousands of international and domestic travel buyers and frontline Australian tourism industry representatives across more than 57,000 appointments. The Queensland contingent this year is the largest ever with 223 Queensland sellers attending across both events, representing 150 companies across the state. Queensland industry
representatives will have the opportunity to meet with 428 buyers representing 206 companies face-to-face at ATE Live and a further 506 buyer companies during ATE Online. Townsville region to host major sporting spectacles In a major coup for the Sunshine State, Townsville's Queensland Country Bank Stadium will turn into the Cauldron of the North next week as it hosts State of Origin Game One on 9 June. This is the first Origin ever held in a regional city and is expected to provide a welcome economic boost to Townsville with Game One tickets selling out within minutes and the city fully booked. Ahead of the opener, Townsville Enterprise has partnered with Airbnb to help North Queenslanders roll out their welcome mats to Origin fans and list their homes or spare rooms on Airbnb. It’s all hands-on deck with all North Queensland industry stakeholders working around the clock to put on a world-class event in only one week and give visitors a once-in-a-lifetime Origin experience in tropical paradise. In more great news, Townsville has secured the inaugural Oceania Rugby Sevens Challenge next month, bringing Australia, New Zealand and Fiji’s best male and female rugby talents and thousands of fans to North Queensland. The event is a major lead-up trial ahead of the Tokyo Olympics and is expected to generate more than 10,000 visitor nights and an estimated $2.3 million for the local economy.

INDUSTRY CALENDAR Quick snippets The latest Queensland Accommodation Report for April 2021 is now available, providing an overview of occupancy rates, revenue per available room and average daily rate for Queensland accommodation establishments with 10 or more rooms. Four new dedicated Tourism Business Financial Counsellors have been appointed to support tourism operators in Cairns, Whitsundays, Gold Coast and Brisbane as an extension of the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 Small Business Financial Counsellors, providing free financial counselling support. Brisbane Airport Corporation’s efforts in improving local air quality has been officially acknowledged, with Brisbane Airport awarded Platinum Recognition in Airports Council International Asia-Pacific’s Green Airports Recognition 2021. Advance Queensland alumni and Brisbane-based travel technology company Travello has been given a boost thanks to a $6.5 million Series A funding round supported by some of the biggest names in the Australian travel industry.
