13 June 2019 Dear Parent / Caregiver With reports now being finalised for Semester One it is an ideal time for parents to be talking with their children about how they feel they are progressing with their school work and identifying areas of strength and areas of potential challenge. Prior to completing reports the school has implemented some really strong processes around the moderation of student work and achievement, which ensures that student assessment and reporting are inline with the Austrialian Curriculum expectations. Upon recieiving your child’s report I would encourage all parents to consider making a time to meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss the report and celebrate any achievements. As the saying goes ‘success breeds success’ and it is really important that we all acknowledge the progress and efforts of the students after a semester of teaching and learning. Choral Fanfare Finalist The school received some positive news this week, with the award winning Senior Voices being selected as a Regional Finalist in the penultimate stage of Choral Fanfare! From our region, five Primary School Choirs have been invited to attend the Regional Finals and our Senior Voices are one of them! The final will be hosted here at Coolum State School next week, details are below: Date: Monday 17th June. What: Regional Finals Choral Fanfare Program: Primary School final from 9.00am-11.00 am. High School Final from 11.30am- 1.00pm. For those parents with a few hours to spare why not come along and support the kids in their final – hope to see you there. Attendance Great to see so many students attending school regularly each day, with the school currently having an attendance rate of 93.5%. For each student to reach their potential it is important that they attend school regularly. Keep up the great work here. If you are having difficulties getting your child to school, please phone the office on 54719300 and ask to speak with a member of the admin team. 2018 School Annual Report Coolum’s School Annual Report for 2018 has now been finalised and will be on the schools website from next week. For those parents interested this is a great opportunity to find out a little bit more about the schools achievements in 2018 and its plans for 2019. Enjoy the long weekend Mick Connors
News from 4R We designed Food Trucks for an Art and English lesson. We had to focus on making our trucks stand out with bright colours and show casing our food items we would be selling. My food truck is a Snow Cone Truck because who does not like flavoured ice that cools you down on hot days. (Tahlia) My food truck is a Donut Truck because it is the best thing ever to eat and they have different toppings. (Mia) My food truck is a French Fries, Burger and Drink Truck because it will make you love it and want to eat more and more. (Lily) My food truck has yummy Coffee and Cookies and I am always busy. It helps with stress for adults so they can relax. (Grace) My food truck has nice refreshing Slushies with heaps of flavours to choose from. There are three cup sizes and they taste nice. (Kayden) My food truck is a Chocolate Truck because I LOVE chocolate. It is a bit boring so I made it colourful and called it Colour Chocolate and you can get every kind of chocolate. (Kiarni) My food truck is Slushy Puppy Stall because I like slushy puppies with strawberry flavour. (Tadhg) My food truck is a Pizza Stall because I love pizza and it is awesome and that is why I made it. (Josh) My food truck is a Pizza Truck because pepperoni is so delicious and who does not like pepperoni pizza! (Sam) I chose a Donut Truck because they make everyone feel happy but they make me the happiest. They have so many toppings but glaze is my number one favourite. (Harper) I chose a Pizza Truck because pizza is the best. You can choose so many different flavours I even made a mystery pizza. (Ollie) My food truck is called Curly Moustache. It is an Italian food truck because I love lasagne because it has lots of cheese. (Jati) My food truck is a Chip Shop because every time I go to the beach we get chips and it is my favourite food. The chips are so crispy. (Jake) I have an Ice Cream Shop because every time I go out to the park I want ice cream and I love the taste of ice cream. (Summer) I have a Mexican Shop food truck because my Aunty is Mexican and I like Mexican food. (Mahli) I did a Snow Cone Truck because if you get hot you can go to the Snow Cone truck and get a cold refreshing cone of ice with whatever flavour you like. (Miller) I did an Ice Cream Truck because if you get hot then you can get some ice cream and that will get you cooled down. (Max) I chose my food truck because I did not know what to do so I did as many different foods as I could and I like all the food I put on it. (Charlie)

They had their first public performance at our wonderful Senior School Athletics Carnival, where they performed their Pom routine in bright, colourful house shirts to an appreciative crowd. The girls are looking forward to performing their Pom routine at Under 8’s Day and Pom and Greatest Show at the end of term whole school parade. The team are very excited as their polo shirts have arrived and the girls have been proudly wearing these on Friday’s. The first competition for the Coolum AllStarz will be the Evolution Dance Competition, held at Kawana on Saturday 27 July. More details will be posted in the newsletter closer to the date. (Sam Bollard) Music news Well, just when you think the news can’t get any better – it does!! Our sensational Senior Voices have been selected as a Regional Finalist and invited to attend the Finals, to be held here at our school hall, this coming Monday 17th June! From over 40 State Primary School Choirs, Coolum was placed in the top 5 Choirs from our Region (extending from North Brisbane up to Hervey Bay) and was selected by the adjudicator to be a part of the Regional Finals! I cannot express how proud I am of all of these sensational singers, and how excited I am for them to be able to showcase their talents amongst the best Choirs from South-East Queensland. I am sure you will join me in wishing them the best of luck for this upcoming performance. (Roz Mackay)
