Sustainable House Models – Rooms 24 and 25 For our STEAM project this semester we have built models of houses that have at least ten sustainable features. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering Art and Maths. We worked with a partner to research environmentally friendly features designed to reduce a house’s impact on the environment. Some features we included were rainwater tanks, double glazed windows, LED lights, grey water plumbing system, organic vegetable gardens, worm farms and solar panels. All of our house models face north as this feature keeps our houses naturally cool in Summer and warm in Winter. After researching we started building our models out of cardboard, which we held together using hot glue guns. Then we painted and decorated our houses with various materials such as corks, plasticine, pop sticks and cellophane. Everyone learnt lots, made a big mess and had lots of fun! Come and see our models which are currently on display in the library. 3
A Message from our School Chaplain I am absolutely loving being at Rossmoyne Primary and utterly delighted to be your chaplain. I am getting to know many of the children, slowly meeting parents and have all the staff names remembered (I think!). I am available for parents between 8.45 and 9.45am and after school on Mondays. My room is situated along the verandah between the library and the office (previously the instrumental music room). Please let your teacher know if there is any way I can support the social or emotional well-being of your child. If you are seeking some extra skills in parenting, please ask as I work closely with Meerilinga who regularly run 1,2,3 Magic, Circle of Security, Tuning into Kids/ Teens, Toddlers to Tweens, and many more. Or keep a look out on my window for current courses. Chaplain Renee (aka Chappy) Renees1@youthcare.org.au Thankfulness Day Hey kids, this Saturday is Thankfulness Day! What are you thankful for? Other than your computer or phone! Take some time to think of someone you would like to thank this weekend. Maybe send them a card or give them an extra-long cuddle. And don’t forget your teachers! Has your teacher or Education Assistant made you think differently, made you feel awesome or helped you solve a problem? If so, let them know how much you value them. Rossmoyne teachers ROCK!
