Cruse Bedfordshire Bereavement Care Training January 2019 Joining information The Foundation Bereavement Care course starts on Saturday 9th february at 9.30am and the information below is provided to help you get off to a good start. If you have any queries, please email Mary Davies at office@crusebedfordshire.org.uk or call 0300 200 4110. Dates and times All sessions begin at 9.30am prompt so please ensure you are at the venue in plenty of time. We aim to end all sessions by 4.30pm at the latest but this may vary slightly depending on the content of the day. Ideally you need to attend all the sessions. If you are unable to make any session then please inform the trainer as soon as possible or email the area office. The dates are: Saturday 9th February Saturday 23rd February Saturday 23rd March Saturday 6th April Saturday 13th April Cruse training is modular. 3 days is the foundation module and the 2 days are the face to face module. In order to complete the course trainees must complete all sessions. If you become a Cruse Volunteer we have an additional skills training session and also an induction and safeguarding to prepare you for work as a volunteer. You will be also be able to undertake further modules and additional CPD. Refreshments Tea, coffee and water are provided at all sessions but you will need to provide your own lunch. As we are in the town centre there are places close by (Waitrose, Costa, bakers etc.) and there is a microwave in the kitchen. Trainers The lead trainer on the course is Rachel Colmer and the co-trainer is Catherine Bajpai. Rachel and Catherine, both have an extensive knowledge of Cruse and bereavement care. Elements of this course can be quite challenging and often stir up strong feelings in trainees. Your trainers are there to support you, so please do not hesitate to talk them if you need to. Equipment You will need to bring a pen and note book and will also need to provide 2 ring binders – one for handouts and another for your portfolio work. All handouts are provided on the course. Further information will be provided at the first session of the course. If you have any problems during the course then please speak to the Lead Trainer, Rachel or to Catherine. The following topics are covered:- Models of grief Creativity in Support The supportive process Society’s attitude to death Impact of bereavement on the family Working with Anger and Guilt Normal and complicated grief reactions Disenfranchised grief Empowering and goal setting Endings and signposting Why do you charge for the course? The full course fee is £250. Cruse Bedfordshire is a charity and we have to cover the costs incurred by training. Compared to many other counselling courses, this course offers very good value for money at just over £5 per hour. Some fee reductions or funded places may be available for those who are unable to pay so please do not let this deter you from applying. Generally these are only available for people living in specific areas of Bedfordshire who wish to become volunteers for Cruse Bedfordshire. We have a number of vacancies each year and will select the best candidates to fill these. Prior to the course you will be interviewed to ensure that it is the right choice for you. The course is the first step to becoming a Bereavement Support Volunteer. Once you have passed the course you will be interviewed for a place as a Bereavement Support Volunteer. Reference will be taken up and due to the nature of the work we do, clearance will also be required from the Disclosing and Barring Service (previously CRB). This seems quite a rigorous selection process but Cruse deals with very vulnerable people and we want them to receive the best service we can provide. We also want to ensure that all our volunteers get the most out of their experience with Cruse Bedfordshire. Priority will be given to those people living in Bedfordshire. If you live elsewhere you are welcome to apply for a place on the training course but will be need to apply to your local branch of Cruse if you wish to volunteer. Next Steps You have been accepted onto the course and If you wish to accept this place we will require a non- refundable deposit of £50 immediately and ideally full payment prior to starting the course. Location & Parking The training will take place at the Cruse Bedfordshire Area Office, 10 Bedford Street, Ampthill MK45 2NB We are situated in the Citizens Advice Building (large red brick building just across the road from Waitrose and on the corner opposite the Raj Indian restaurant). The front door will be locked on Saturdays. Please come to the rear of the building (in Park Street) and enter via the white door. Parking in Waitrose car park restricted to 1 and a half hours so do not park here! There is on street parking or in bays along Woburn Street up to Ampthill Park. It is a 5 minute walk from here. You can cut up Park Hill (by zebra crossing & Fiona Gray Finance) and then turn right (no entry sign) into Park Street and follow road downhill to the office at the bottom of road on left rather than walking all the way around. There is a long term carpark in St Andrews Place, Church Street, Ampthill MK45 2PZ. It is £2.20 a day and there should be spaces available early on Saturday morning. It takes about 5 minutes to walk to the Area Office from here. Payment is via a mobile app called Mobile Pay which you can download prior to coming to Ampthill or you can pay in advance online at http://www.rcpparking.com/online-payments Please leave plenty of time to park and get to the office as sessions will start at 9.30am prompt.
