Austrian Drummer Awards 2021General Information
The AUSTRIAN DRUMMER AWARDS is an International Drummer Competition.
The participants have to produce Youtube Video Clips of one Freestyle
Drumsolo and of a Playalong. The Youtube Links of these Video Clips has to be
sent to info@austriandrummerawards.com until the 1st of April 2021.
On the Video Clips there should be no (Scores or Music Sheets) visible, because
every Performance should be played by memory.
All in all there are four different age categories.
In 2021 the special topic is called „Buddy Rich Special“, which has to be taken
into account.
Buddy Rich Special
The Focus on the Austrian Drummer Awards 2021 is „Buddy Rich“.
In the Freestyle Drum Solo there are three elements desired.
RUDIMENTAL DRUMMING: Rudimental Drumming should be used in the Free Style
Drumsolo. These parts could be inspired, for example, by Buddy Rich`s
rudimental drumming as well as Charly Wicoxon`s Rudimental Swing Soli.
BUDDY RICH LICKS: Buddy Rich Licks should be also intigrated in the Free Style
Drumsolo, no matter, if its the original 16th triplet Lick between the floor tom and
the snare drum, or any other variation of this Buddy Rich Lick.
SWING: In the Freestyle Drum Solo, one of the choosen drum styles should be
Swing. Therefore every particpant can freely decide, if they are going to play
trditional swing or contemporary swing, like it is used in free jazz music.
Categories
These are the different age categories.
Kategorie Alter
PROFESSIONAL 19 – 25 years
ADVANCED 16 – 18 years
INTERMEDIATE 13 – 15 years
BEGINNER 10 – 12 years
For calculating the right age category please use the reporting date of the 31th
of december 2020.
Austrian Drummer Awards 2021Freestyle Drum Solo
The Freestyle Drum Solo is an improvised or a completely composed Drum Solo.
Performed by memory (no sheets should be visible on your Youtube Clips)
Duration: min.: 1 minutes
max.: 3 minutes
Styles:
In your Drum Solo three different drum styles hast o be included.
If its possible, Swing should be one of them.
Changes between binary and ternary bars are welome.
Rudimental Drumming is desired in every age categories.
Every Style, Rudiments and changes should be used creatively.
Few examples for different drum styles:
Rock Shuffle Reggae
Funk Blues Metal
Swing Latin Dubstep
Playalong
Every participant has to choose one out of ten Playalongs. (age category)
Every participant is supposed to play the Play Along by memory.
The Play Along can be interpreted creatively ore can be played like the original
Drum Part.
For every participants the Playalongs are provided for free.
It depends on every participant, if they produce their video clips just by using
theit smartphone (Digital Cameras) or by using Video Programms and Sound
Programms (Microphones) for preparing their Video Clips.

Austrian Drummer Awards 2021Assessment
The performance of every participants will be assesd by these criteria:
Timing
Creativity
Musicality
Dynamics
Phrasing
Technique
Performance
Authentic, personal Stil
Competition Instruments
For the maximum fairness every participant has to use not more than these parts
of their own drumkits on the Youtube Clips.
Competition Instruments:
1x Bass Drum, 1x Snare Drum, 1x Rack Tom, 1 or 2 Floor Toms.
1x HH, 2x Crash, 1x Ride, Single or Doble Bass Drum Pedal.
Any other amendments or additions to the competition Instruments are not
allowed.
Procedure before the Competition Day
First every participant has to sign in at the Official Austrian Drummer Awards
Website. „Registration“ After the successful bank transfer of the registration fee
every participant will receive a registration permission including the Link for free
download of every Playalong of their age category.
Then every Participant will produce two Youtube Clips.
One of their Free Style Drumsolo and one of their Play Along.
The Youtube Links of these two Clips has to be sent to
info@austriandrummerawards.com until the 1st of April 2021.
At the 1st of April every Yotube Clip will be published on the Austrian Drummer
Awards Website. Now,the Jury is able to judge every video clip.
On the Competition Day the jury will discuss per Online Meeting about the results.
In the Afternoon ofevery Competition Day the Participants will receive a Online
Feedback by the Jury. Therefore the exact time and code for the Onilne
Meetings will be sent to every participant long time before.
At night of every competition day the results will be published on the website.
Awards will be sent directly to every participants address.
